Nirvana 2 on the iPad
OK,
Most of you know that I have a love hate relationship with Apple. Love the products but don't like Steve....
I decided to get my wife an iPad for Christmas because she already has the iPhone 4 and loves it. I was wondering how Nirvana 2 runs on the iPad.
Any current iPad users out there that are willing to share the experience?
Thanks

Proximo, I think that your wife will really love her iPad! I purchased one for my wife a few months ago, and she loves it! We both have them.
The full version of Nirvana now works pretty well on a iPad, but did not until builds 86 and 87. There is quite q bit of panning that I do to make things bigger, etc., but it is usable. Make certain that you install the iOS 4.2 update and use either Safari or another browser that supports multitasking.
I really like Nirvana but have committed to OmniFocus for my GTD needs. The app. On the iPad is the best I've ever seen, and it syncs perfectly through the cloud with my MacBook Pro. I'm much like you in my relationship with Apple and don't care for Jobs at all. However, the stuff just plain works, and I'm able to use both Mac and Wndows at work. If I did not have OmniFocus, I would use Nirvana as it is the best of all the web-based apps.
Good luck!
Jeff

@jaworthen
Thanks for the quick reply.
I have an iPhone and love it. I consider my self a big time Computer Geek or maybe just a Geek in general. I love customizing things and tweaking things in Windows 7 to do what I want and how I want.
Although I like to tinker, what I love most about Apple products is the simplicity in design and the stuff just plain works.
I am sure my wife would love her new iPad and she will really love watching her Netflix movies on it.

First of all, it works, and comes in pretty handy when you don't have access to a pc...and now that the iPad update has been released it is also nice that you can edit your tasks without an internet connection and then sync the changes when you are back online. In addition, you can pretty much get the same end results using the iPad as you can with a pc. However, the big difference (for me, anyway) is the user experience for making the changes.
For example, you can still move a task from the Inbox to Next, but you have to use the drop-down menus to do so. This works fairly well for me but it can be difficult to press the drop down arrow without zooming in on it. Also, once the context menu comes up you can only select one thing at a time. For example, if you set the Energy it will close the menu and you have to press on the drop down arrow again to set the Time, Area, etc. The exception to this is that you can select multiple tags similar to how you can on a pc.
If they can change it so that it is easier to bring up the context menu, and change it so that the menu stays open while you make ALL of your selections, it would make the user experience quite a bit better....though I don't think anything could be as slick as the desktop version without creating a dedicated iPad app.

Indeed, the inability to drag and drop on the iPad is what keeps me away from using it as a GTD device. For me, being able to drag and drop is important because it helps me visualize things better. Some folks have told me it's a learning disability, but I learn things better when I'm able to visualize where things are placed.

Thanks for all the great information. I know that a dedicated iPad app would be amazing, but if it can do 90% of what the site does, it's a win.
I am getting my wife into GTD and trying to get her going on Nirvana. I am hoping the iPad will make it easier for her to jump into GTD.

Sounds like you are pretty handy on the iPad. Could you point me at what I am doing wrong please. Downloaded 4.2.1 lastnight onto the pad and tried the version2 desktop app to no avail. All I get is a blank grey screen when using safari. Mobile link works fine for v2 but not the desktop.
I did play with it 1st before when still at ios3 so wonder if that has caused a saved error somewhere. Any ideas
Thanks

Me too. I waited anxiously for the ipad update. Just upgraded. I got a blank screen for the desktop site. For the mobile site, after the initial login screen, all I can do is change my AOF and use the "+" button to add new task. I can't access to the "Focus", "Next" and all other folders :( Did I do something wrong ? I saw under settings I had 4.2.1 installed.

I took my words back. I'm able to access the desktop version now, and the mobile version works too. I have to do a logout and re-login. Refresh doesn't work. Sorry for the noise guys :)

That worked a treat. All great. No excuses left now
Thanks

I echo Mike in that drag and drop is what stops me using my iPad for this.
Even if was the ability to hit an arrow image to push a task up or down. That would be good. But drag and drop would be the slickest.
Thanks
Joe
