Hi everyone - One of my Twitter followers introduced me to Personal Kanban - http://personalkanban.com. There's some articles on there about the similarities and differences with GTD. I'm curious if any of you have heard of it and your thoughts/impressions. Thanks!

@Photon - what do you mean this would look like a spam post? Are you referencing my question?? I do hope not! I received a message from one of my many Twitter followers who suggested I look into Personal Kaban. I went through the website, viewed the YouTube videos, and the SlideShare presentation. I'm trying wrap my arms around understanding how I would apply GTD contexts (@contact, @computer, @ errands) and my Areas of Focus (Work, Home, Blog) with the Backlog --> Doing --> Done methodology. In any event, thanks for not considering my post "spam"! Looking forward to some substantive replies...

Whilst interesting, this looks like a huge project just getting to grips with PK, never mind a GTD hybrid, and one I am unlikely to take.

The concepts of defining work as "ready" and what can be "worked on" is problematic for me. In a dynamic work environment, priorities/deadlines/time/energy changes minute by minute for me, hence why I love GTD. With PK I cant help thinking I would end up just endlessly updating my capped lists instead of "doing".

I even struggled initially with Nirvana's "today" list for the same reason, I now use this as my "working" task list of ONE item, that i feel the need to work on NOW. Having achieved completion of a task, I review my whole next action list filtered by context/time/energy and select just ONE task for the "today" list, and so on.

Whilst my review of this approach has been very limited, Personal Kaban would seem to be another priority juggling "energy zapper" similar to MLO/Toodledo etc., but I remain to be convinced otherwise!

@deekod - The more I think about it, the more I agree with you. I think the system is fundamentally flawed in the sense that there are no defined areas in which one can clearly identify what the next action item is or where it should be taking place. Moreover, I found that people were creating more than one PK for what we would call Areas of Focus. I think where GTD gets it right is clearing one's mind, understanding what is actionable, when it's actionable, and who needs to be doing the next action. One other point I agree with you on - think that GTD unlike PK is designed for professionals with priorities, large number of projects that need to be accomplished, and many actionable items that vary in time and energy. Bottom line - after reading your post and doing some more research, I think I've completely discounted this methodology.

Personal Kanban seems to be gaining traction - anyone else tried it?

All we need to do is spark Proximo's interest and he'll do a proper analysis......;-)
