Do you really know how you spend your time? Interesting tool!
How do we use our time? Are we really spending time
on what we need/want to get done?
Those are questions I've asked myself lately. So
I found a website that keeps track of time and it's
free! It seems pretty cool. Here it is:
http://www.toggl.com
This is my first online tool I've tried. If you have
a suggestion or just want to share what you use
please let me know! :)

Also, they have a cool android app that runs real time with
the browser version. So you can start and stop on the run!
Iphone app too.

I use Rescue Time
http://www.rescuetime.com
They have been around for a long time and have a great service.
I will look into Toggl. It's always nice to see what else is out there, but Rescue Time has been great for a long time.

@proximo
Hey nice recommendation! This seems a lot easier being that it is doing
it all in the background. Do you think the paid version is worth getting?
Or does the free version work well enough for you?

I also use Rescue Time and find it very helpful to determine how productive I've been and what changes I need to make to be even more productive.

@dean
I think the free version does a good enough job in pointing out how much time I waste.
:-)
I honestly have used this to get a grip on reality and become more productive. You must let a little history build up but it's very useful once you start to track your actual computing habits.
You can change categories and customize it some. I made sure that Nirvana 2 was marked as productive because I have it open all day. At first it came across as web usage which is not a good thing.
Try it out for at least a week and I think you will find it useful.

RE: New app to monitor your time worked and have a priority list to
keep you focused!
Check this new beta site out: www.timedoctor.com
It's free and has great customer support (surprisingly so for beta).
I think it's better than Rescuetime although it's more hands on
which is actually good for me because it keeps me focused.
PROS:
* Free (for now) * monitors when your at the computer or away * priority task list, ie, highest ones go to the top * you can add time in via their website in case you need to make adjustments * Monitor yourself or/and your employees, take screen shots or turn off. * emails you daily and weekly reports etc.
CONS:
* if you walk away from your computer you need to hit the away from the computer button, and if you forget you'll have to add that time to your account via online.
* For some it's not set it and forget it. You have to click on the task your working on, ie, task #1. This actually is good IMO since now your more aware of what your working on.
I like this better than Rescuetime because it makes you
more aware of what your doing. I use this with the Pomodaro
technique and it's awesome. With Rescure if you jump around
on websites deemed "work related" you still may not be focused
on the task, ie, task #1 on your list.
Try it out! Let me know what you think!

I don't use Rescue time to track the time I spend on any specific thing. I use it as an overview of how I spend my time on my computer.
What I like about Rescue Time is that I don't have to do anything. I run it and it's always doing it's thing in the background.
:-)
