iPhone app / iPhone OS4

Just wanted to ask when can we expect the iPhone app to be released. As previous user of 2DO and mobile Things, I'm really missing a good, web-independent app - mobile internet access in Poland is still too expensive...

Another thing: I suppose you are planning to use the functionality of iPhone OS4, which would enable Nirvana app to directly modify iCal. Are you planning to publish the app earlier (under OS3) or wait for OS4 which, if I'm correct, is going to be released in Summer?

By the way - thanks a lot for recent invitation! :)

    Good question adsumus.

I don't think the iPhone app is in development at this time until they lock down the features and feel of the web app.

If that's true that it's not even in development stage, then that's sad news... I really miss the functionality of 2do even though it offers far more than GTD methodology requires. I love the 2do's functionality of GTD + Calendar enabling to manage some task like 'events' (setting timescale, alerts) - you get 2 in 1 basically. But then 2do has no desktop app which is essential if one struggles with tiny iphone keyboard and screen.
I guess "simple" sync of Nirvana with iCal would do the job, turning some of the tasks into events nested inside calendar.
By now I'm giving webapp a try and will double-entry some tasks as events in iCal.

No iPhone app could be a potential deal-breaker for me. If it is in development, I would be more than happy to be a beta tester. If there are no plans in the near future for native iPhone support, then back to Toodledo I go. Currently I'm evaluating both side by side. Cloud computing and native iPhone, Adroid, BlackBerry apps is the future. The first task management system that can play nice with all three, can easily be used for GTD is going to get the lions share of the market. I don't need a desktop app as I'm moving almost everything into the cloud. In which I do require an app for both the iPhone and iPad.

Nirvana will be making an iPhone app, but at this stage they are focused in finishing the core service for the web site. Because of this focus, the web app is much easier to implement first and start getting a feel for what works, what does not and most importantly, what the users want.

This will allow Nirvana to run on any Smart Phone and also have a native iPhone app as well.

Another thing to consider is that Nirvana will be releasing the API in waves and this could potentially allow 3rd party apps to add Nirvana integration into their existing applications.

This could mean that Appigo Todo adds Nirvana integration down the road or any other similar service. Ultimately the native app by Nirvana should be the best experience since it's designed by the developers.

The lack of IPhone app is killing me also.

Having recently switched my system from Toodledo to Nirvana I'm finding that whilst I love the Nirvana simplitcity and ease of use whilst sat in the office at a computer, its becomming increasingly difficult to manage and to remember things whilst away from my desk.

I previously followed Proximo's topic on toodledo forums (thanks btw :) using toodledo to sync tasks into Appigo Todo. This allowed me to have a live view of all my tasks on the lock screen off my iphone. Similar to.... http://iwatcher.net/shot/c1fe1d001fe40d268a405467c9cb7124-320x480.png

Without the syncronization between todo and nirvana im finding that im now duplicating entry of tasks onto both nirvana and todo which is becomming too labour intensive.

Do you think that Appigo Todo may ever provide support for syncing to Nirvana?

Also, just wondering how all the other Iphone users who've come over to nirvana from Toodledo are coping without a dedicated iphone app?

Also, Are there any ways to manage reminders without having to duplicate them on 2x systems and have this system work whilst you are offline or without signal?

    @Alex,

Welcome to Nirvana and I am glad you remember me from Toodledo forums. :-)

I am with you. I LOVE my iPhone and having Appigo Todo was fantastic. The reason I moved over to Nirvana had to do with the frustrations of hacking a GTD System. I was willing to loose the iPhone app to gain a good GTD System but this does not mean I don't miss my iPhone app.

Nirvana will be releasing an API and I can only hope Appigo Todo jumps on this. They will need pressure form us to make it worth their time.

Today I am simply using the Nirvana Web App and it works OK. Nothing like having a native iPhone app but it allows me to see my list, my today items, add/remove task. More features are coming to the web app and it would be welcomed, but I will be excited to see a native iPhone app just like you.

Reminders is something currently in development but I currently use my Google Calendar to remind me of important things. Not the best solution, but it works for now. :-)

I'm new to both GTD and the tools that you need to do the job. I've had ToDo for a while on my iPhone, and had just got into it properly when I found Nirvana. ToDo is pretty simple in terms of ease of use, but I dislike the Toodledo interface intensely (can't really explain why - just don't like it) and wasn't willing to pay again to make it work fully with ToDo. This means that I have become more reliant on my iPhone for lists, which also means that I'm getting frustrated by the lack of an iPhone app. Having said that, with my limited knowledge and experience of GTD, I love the web interface of Nirvana, have realised how well keyboard shortcuts can be implemented in Web 2.0, and can't wait to be fully reliant on it - but that will only come with the app (or maybe the next gen much-quicker-than-my-3g iPhone!).

And of course, we are all testing a beta - really can't complain!!

I know Nirvana is getting pressure from all of us on this and you are not alone. Although I really want a native iPhone app, I also want Nirvana to complete the web site experience with all the features we have been requesting.

If this means a Web App needs to hold me over, then I am willing to suffer through it. They have a small team at this point and no revenue coming in at the moment. I can only imagine they would love to have the time and resources to do everything at once but it's probably not realistic. :-)

Yes - I absolutely understand. I'm at the point where I'm almost sorry to have found it so soon both in Nirvana's development and my understanding of GTD! I should probably stick with ToDo and keep a watching eye on Nirvana until both of us are at a stage where it's an easy and obvious switch over. In fact, I think that I've just made that decision - at least until I upgrade my iPhone to whatever Apple is going to offer this summer (my 3g really is too slow to use a web app regularly).

As I think I said earlier, I love the use of Web 2.0 stuff, love keyboard shortcuts, love the simplicity of the UI and, from what I've seen of GTD, love the ease of implementation.

So, in the meantime, I'm going to go back to ToDo and Toodledo, and will have to live with the limitations of free Toodledo, and its despicable interface, and will need to learn better how to implement 'next task' in ToDo...

So, it's back to some of your postings on the Toodledo forums, and some serious work on getting my lists up to date. I'm amazed at the feeling of relief at getting my personal email inboxes to zero (with a few actionable outstanding), and can't wait to do the same for my work email - but, as usual, I've managed to become distracted by the latest toy (Nirvana)

Sorry to ramble, but thanks for your reply.

    Regards,

    Paul

@Proximo. Thanks again for your reply. I don't want to go, but one of the linchpins of GTD is having a 'trusted' tool. I have, today, been almost entirely without Nirvana, and hence my lists. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, the O2 3G network here in sunny Norwich (UK) has been down (although O2 don't currently admit it!), so data has been too slow to be viable, and secondly, I regularly have to work in a basement, with little or no reception anyway. This is not - absolutely not - a criticism of Nirvana or the people behind it who are, I believe, doing a fantastic job (I love new tech, and simplicity, having spent many years working for a large organisation well known for plain, simple, honest customer service. But based on today's issues, I can't trust my tool (by which I mean the physical mobile internet device that I'm using, not the UI to the data that I need), so I have to revert, in the main, to using a mobile storage device which will work with or without network connectivity...

I completely understand. The important thing is for you to be productive today and if Nirvana can't accomplish this for the reasons you mentioned, it would only make sense for you to hold out.

I can get by with Nirvana because I am on-line all the time at work and I have great 3G coverage in Dallas, TX.

Hope to see you back here from time to time.

    Hi @paul....

a little late at hopping into this thread, but better late than never. Proximo pretty much outlined our current status on standalone iPhone app. We are focusing more on the development on the mobile web app (as you know) as features can be rolled out in unison (pretty much) to the browser app and the mobile web app.

We have some very keen developers ready and raring to go on a Nirvana iPhone app. The hurdle has been that the API isn't open yet. We are hoping to bridge this gap by working more directly with the developers one on one without having to cause delays by writing out all the API documentation etc... and officially releasing it (which we will eventually).

Please do stay tuned and keep an eye out on our blog and tweets... we'll be letting people know when something BIG like an iPhone app gets released. I'm confident we'll be able to pull you back in once Nirvana can work as a trusted system for you, given you need to be able to work offline.

    thanks!
    C

When you guys start developing a iPhone/iPad app, take a look at the sync functionality of Evernote (on iPhone/iPad). When you edit or add a note in Evernote, it instantly syncs the changes. So there's no need to click on a sync button, and it's always up to date.

Well, I said I'd be back, and I am. I now have an iPhone 4, and have switched to a more stable, and seemingly faster, network. And today I fell in love with Nirvana all over again.

I'm looking forward to continuing improvements, in both my understanding and implementation of GTD, and of the tool itself, and will keep an eye on these boards for advice - which I know I already need...

    Hi guys

I would seriously look at Grapple (http://www.grapplemobile.com/ ) to deliver the mobile platform for Nirvana, I have seen this running and my company has built a few apps as prototypes.

It would dramatically reduce your dev time and more importantly reduce your costs.

Food for thought basically as I am eager (read as desperate) for a native iPhone app.

Man, I have tried all the other online services that have iPhone app integration, and I just can't see using any of them despite the iPhone integration. Nirvana is the ONLY web app that I really feel comfortable using on my computer. Actually, since having switched over from Mac to Windows (not by choice), I haven't found even a regular Windows app that I like as much as Nirvana.

Not having a iPhone app is killing me, but its not as bad as having a bad desktop app. I still need Windows offline access, but I haven't missed that so much yet.

So far I can't have my cake and eat it too, but at some point it will come...

I agree that having a solid GTD application is far more important than having an iPhone app. In time it will come and we will all be happy.

Is there a platform for sharing mobile web apps called Open App Mkt. It allows to add apps on iphone desktop without the Safari toolbar, so you can see them fullscreen.

I create an app with the Nirvana 2 mobile URL. You can install and download form:

I use the OpenAppMkt on my iPhone and think it's a very nice and fast way to use Web Apps. Never considered using Nirvana through this.

Users need to remember that when you visit http://openappmkt.com, the very fist web app you should add to your home screen is the OpenAppMkt app itself. :-)

This will allow you to launch it almost like the Apple App Store but it's nothing but Web Apps.

    Thanks for doing this.
