Have to move on to Omnifocus for iPhone app

It is a sad day. I'm about a year in to GTD. I started with Nirvana a year ago as I implemented GTD and it has worked marvelously for me to this point. Sadly, my job is going more mobile and I am going to need to be 95% working on my iPhone for GTD purposes and no longer at a PC. With the current state of Nirvana and the iPhone, I'm going to give Omnifocus a try.

Thanks guys for everything to this point, this product has been great and I look forward to coming back in the future when you make your way to a native, more responsive iPhone app!

I know the feeling, made the jump to omnifocus some weeks ago, Nirvana is Great, on the web. For me Omnifocus is true GTD.
I´m checking in here from time to time, because it´s a great forum, but the progres is too slow... :(

I have to confess... I made the same decision this week. I got an iPad and an iPhone recently, and using gtd on the move has become so satisfying that I can't stay without it anymore. I started by using Nirvana at home and work, printing my tasks when I was on the move. Then I started using Wunderlist to keep my lists on the move, copying and pasting each item from Nirvana every time I was leaving office and home, but now it's been definitely too long we can't use Nirvana on a mobile device (and no, for some reason neither mobile nor standard nirvana ever worked on safari for my ipad and iphone... just a blank screen).
I have a desktop mac only at work so i KNOW I will miss Nirvana on my home PC but the advantages Omnifocus is giving over this app right now are too many... and apart from the web app, I still can't see anything I was doing in Nirvana that I can't also do on OF. With some tweaks, even Wunderlist which is also free, would do a good job (no recurring lists and score of other great Nirvana functions, but hey, the software is REALLY cross-platform, even on Android, web, iOS, PC, Mac, whatever).

In any case I love this community and I will keep reading the forums and follow the development on Nirvana. I hope I can be back one day.

I think this very much depends on where you use your lists. For those who are mostly working from a desk with internet access, you wouldn't really need much more than Nirvanahq. If you are on the road a lot where you might find internet access less reliable then a native app becomes more important. This is the position I found myself in so as a result I've found myself experimenting with a few apps but have decided to switch back to Toodledo as there are some very decent native android apps for it. The web app isn't as slick as Nirvana but it works and with the mobile app it's the best current solution at this time.

I know Nirvana has plans for native apps down the line but I've seen the "native" apps of programmes like Wunderlist and Nozbe and these seem to be a hybrid of web and native. They certainly don't have the speed of true native apps and I guess Nirvana might well go down that route as well. In any case I'll keep an eye on this place as other than the mobile solution I do like the software.

I'm 60% of the way through my transition over (and let me tell you, one foot in/one foot out is killing my GTD productivity!), and I will give massive kudos to the Nirvana team for one thing that I have found as a major flaw with Omnifocus... the lack of separation of people/contacts from contexts.

In Omnifocus, there is no way to tag an action by both a person and a context, which is actually quite a nuisance!

I still have to stick with Omnifocus because of the iPhone issue, but kudos Nirvana!

Just curious - were you all using Nirvana 1 or Nirvana 2 on your iPhone and iPad?

Anyway, there are some things in OF I still don't like, one being not having a someday/maybe status for tasks...

Nirvana 2. I don't use iphone or ipad, my phone is android. Just to be clear, I found the Nirvana mobile workable to an extent as long as it is synced before I go offline. Loading can sometimes be problematic when I'm out as well, but here are the reasons why I've stuck with a native app solution for now:

    1) Instant access anywhere to my lists anywhere offline
    2) Fast one button add task feature
    3) Widgets. A 4x2 calendar widget with a 4x 2 task widget below means I have everything I need to do on one phone screen. HTC android phones have 7 scrollable screens and I've allocated one of them exclusively to that view. I just find that amazingly useful.

I'm brand new to Nirvana, trying to let this thread not depress me, but I'm hoping that they get a good round of funding to help them add some resources and get the mobile apps created, but even more importantly the API out in form that can be used by developers to start making their own apps to sync with Nirvana...

Same here. I can no longer use Nirvana because of the lack of an iPhone app. It's quite disappointing because the Nirvana web app is simply fantastic. I'll try to make do for a month or two with Google Tasks in the hopes that the team here is able to release a native mobile app. I don't want to get overly-committed to another GTD solution if I can help it, but I may have to pretty soon.

Thanks for all of your hard work Nirvana team! I hope to be able to return soon.

I've been having trouble with the mobile version on my iphone, but I've gotten it to work by doing a couple random things:

    1. I've had the problem of the endless "one moment please..." Screen. I noticed that it continues after the apple "thinking" wheel up by the wifi icon stops. Once that stops, if I refresh, the home screen usually loads ok.

    2. I could click on focus, next, etc., but it would take me to a blank screen. When I looked at the URL it was: app.nirvanahq.com/m#view. I would delete the word "view" and reload it with just app.nirvanahq.com/m# and it would work. Sometimes this would help with issues number 1 as well.

Once things are loaded, it's very functional. A reload every once and a while, and I'm good.

But all in all, I agree: A truly native app that syncs to the web-servers but then allows for total offline use is the missing piece for this software. Having this software in my pocket and functional is absolutely essential for true "mind-like-water." I've thought about switching back to Toodledo (or even...urp...RTM) at this point, but I'm holding out for now. The web UI and fuction are just too good to let go. With updates about every month, I think they are moving along quite nicely.

Looking forward to a native app! Keep it up everyone!
