Hi Bill -
Click on a task name, then tab into the second field. :-)

it is better to have tags as comma separated values, and to allow tags to be multiple words...
Support Staff 4 Posted by Elbert McLaughlin on 20 Jan, 2010 09:12 PM
we wrestled with this decision...
anyone else feel strongly about comma vs space delimiters?
5 Posted by pockets on 21 Jan, 2010 08:43 AM
preference probably goes to space delimiters, but then i learned naming conventions as a programmer, and i favor successive words being capitalized. (you also don't have to "escape" the spaces on a *nix box when you don't use them. and if you spend any time between OSs, customarily leaving out spaces becomes a boon.)
that said, either works and it becomes a quirk of the particular system you use. that is to say, when i use Delicious, they have space delimiters for tags, and i don't even think about using commas because it isn't how Delicious works. and when I write on my blog, the API needs comma delimiters, and i don't think about them when i put them in, i just do it.

+1 for comma delimiters - in my experience at least it's the norm and allows you more freedom and flexibility in creating tags

+1 for commas!

I want to chenge or delete tags from the list across the top.
How do you do that?
Support Staff 11 Posted by Christiane Magee on 11 Jun, 2010 04:35 PM
Hi Andrew,
Tags appear if they have been assigned to one or more tasks located in
your current view. They will disappear if they aren't associated at
all to any tasks.
If you don't want to see a tag anymore, simply click on the tag to
show the tasks that have that tag, then remove the tag from each task.
To edit the tag, same thing, but instead of removing each tag
instance, you'll rename the tag.
Note that at this time we don't have a tag management system or
library... i.e. if you edit the tag `food` to `eat` in one instance,
all instances will not be updated. This will most likely change in the
future.
I hope this helps.
thanks,
C

I would really like to see a tag management system where I can edit, remove and merge tags.
Support Staff 13 Posted by Christiane Magee on 21 Jul, 2010 08:20 PM
agreed... it's a comin'.

Is the tag management system still a'comin ?
15 Posted by Proximo on 30 Nov, 2010 03:45 PM
@Sunni
If you are using Nirvana 2.0, The Tag management system is already here.
16 Posted by sunni.freyer on 30 Nov, 2010 04:17 PM
Thanks, Proximo. I have reviewed 2.0 but it seems to early for "production" use. I take it that no more upgrades will be done to this beta?
17 Posted by Proximo on 30 Nov, 2010 07:32 PM
@Sunni
I don't know for sure, but I would imagine that Nirvana Developers are spending their time and energy on getting 2.0 ready for prime time and many of the features we where wanting are already implemented in the new version.
If it was my company, I would not spend the time to add features to Nirvana 1.0 and would also focus on the new and improved version. :-)

How do I delete a Tag or Context from a Task?
I've tried the following:
1. Looked for an 'X' on the label (like there is on Contexts for Projects)
2. Used the keyboard (e.g. backspace in Context field)
3. Unselected Context in right drop-down menu
Is this a known issue for N2 build 122?
20 Posted by Proximo on 27 Dec, 2010 05:47 PM
@Jeremy
In N2, everything is a tag. While in edit mode, you should see a box around your tags with an "x" for you to pick for deletion.
Here is a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vri_b1w9V-E&hd=1

Thanks for the video demo.
I now see that there are two different types of tags: grey tags copied from the Project tags (which cannot be edited at the task level) and blue tags that are for the Task (and can be edited).
22 Posted by Proximo on 28 Dec, 2010 02:09 PM
@Jeremy
The Project Tags work the same way, but you need to click on the Project title to go into edit mode.
As long as you are in edit mode, you can remove or add tags from Projects or individual task.

+1 for the comma vs space. It would benefit me a lot to have some two-word tags.
Also, could I make a request to consider relocating the cloud tag from the bottom of the side bar to the middle, somewhere above the projects? Or possibly in the header above? Right now, when the projects tab is expanded, I have to either navigate down a long ways past all of our projects to find the cloud, or navigate to the little arrow to collapse the projects so I can see the tag cloud. This is the only thing I've found so far that pulls me out of my "zone" to deal with. Kudos and thanks!

@kathie -- N2 allows for 2+ word tags
We'll be adding the tag cloud for N2 soon -- I'll add your vote to the top vs. bottom poll, although I'm personally hoping that will be a user preference.
No new development is being done in N1, so the tags aren't going to change there - sorry.
Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks David
I'm trying to judge whether N2 is ready enough for prime time. I'm tempted to jump in daily! So many cool features.
Is it getting close? :-)
Support Staff 26 Posted by David McLaughlin on 11 May, 2011 08:08 PM
Pretty close (we think) and we're only putting new functionality into N2.
There are a couple key feature releases (including adding a few missing features from N1 to N2, like the tag cloud) and then what I'd call a "clean & consolidate" release - to get rid of some of the smaller annoyance items that can be worked around (but shouldn't have to be) , add short-cuts, etc.
Then we'll sunset N1 and have everyone migrate (or re-migrate) to N2.

Thanks!! So exciting! :-) If you have a second, could you tell me if the positions of the project names (that everyone has been posting about in dismay) will be returned to normal?
Support Staff 28 Posted by David McLaughlin on 11 May, 2011 08:51 PM
Yes - next release, by overwhelming demand ;-)
