Automatically forwarding emails from Gmail to Nirvana does not work
Hi all,
forwarding emails from my Gmail inbox to my Nirvana inbox is a valuable option which works well as long as the forwarding is done manually.
In some scenarios, I'd like emails to be automatically forwarded. One example is my daily agenda from Google Calendar, which gets emailed to me every morning. I set up a filter to forward this email to my Nirvana inbox. It never shows up, however.
To verify that I didn't make a mistake in setting up the filter, I applied a new rule in my Gmail settings that automatically forwards ALL incoming email to my Nirvana inbox. It never arrives in the Nirvana inbox.
In short: manually forwarding works, automatically forwarding does not work. Any suggestions?
best, Pieter

HI Pieter... another user has reported a similar issue. We'll be taking a look into this to see why this isn't working and do some tests on our end.
I'm thinking the best thing at the moment to to keep manually forwarding your daily agenda into Nirvana.
thanks for reporting.

I think this is an issue with Gmail and not Nirvana.
Gmail does not use forwarding filters correctly to any site. If you look in the Gmail user forums, you will find many there who are complaining about the bug to Google with no replies.
I tested this on 3 different services and it does not work for any. I even tried forwarding a gmail to my work email with zero results.
Just saying.....

I remembered reading a Google Apps update on this and thought that could
help figure out what is hapenning, so I fetched it and here it is:
Gmail now requires verification of forwarding addresses when using filters
or autoforwarding<http://googleappsupdates.blogspot.com/2010/05/gmail-now-requires-verification-of.html>

When setting up a new filter that forwards email or auto-forwarding email to
a specific email address, you now need to also verify that you actually have
permission to forward to that address. This is similar to verifying
addresses for the ‘custom from’ feature.
There are exemptions to this change: Premier and Education edition users
will not need to verify forwarding addresses that are:
- in their own domain
- in a subdomain of their own domain
- in a domain alias configured as part of the Google Apps account
Hope this helps.

@Lasares,
Great find. This has been a dead topic for so long in the Google Support pages, that I figured it would never get fixed.
We still have a problem with verification from Nirvana. When I tried to setup my Siri iPhone app to forward to Nirvana, I could not get the verification because Nirvana does not except HTML based emails. :-(

I actually did get the verification email in my Nirvana inbox without any problems.

@pnooren,
If the email sent for authentication is html base, nirvana can't process it.
This has been a problem with using the Siri iPhone app to capture my thought on audio which then transcribes it to an email that is sent to my gmail account.
I created a filter to then grab the email coming from Siri and forward it to my Nirvana inbox and it does not work.

Was trying to do this as well.. No luck.. Got the verification email and verified, but emails forwarded through Gmail are not showing up at all..

I also was able to get a verification email for Gmail, but forwarding in Gmail simply des not work. You can still find many forum discussion on the net that talk about this problem with no solution available.
I have two simple filters. Emails sent from my Mailme: Text app to my gmail inbox get's a tag called "ToDo". Then the email get's forwarded to my verified Nirvana email.
The tag part of my simple filter works fine, but the forwarding does not.
I played with many filter options and they all seem to work as intended except email forwarding. It's simply broken in Gmail and Google has done nothing about it in a very long time.

I don't think it's just gmail - I set up a forwarder at a domain I control to forward email sent to "***@my-domain.com" to my nirvanahq email address - it never hits the inbox.
I verified that the email was indeed forwarded - it shows as successfully sent in my server's /var/log/exim_mainlog

I am having similar problems forwarding or sending email from Outlook 2007. Sometimes they show up, but many times they do not appear in my Nirvana Inbox. I have tried both HTML and plain text -- there does not seem to be a difference in what shows up.
