Tips & Tricks: Iphone app 'Mailme'
Hi,
I've found an app in the appstore named Mailme. The app can only send a mail with a subject to a specified mail address.
this is how you can send a mail to your Nirvana inbox really fast! It's a bit expensive 1,59 euro (only sends a subject to 1 mail address) but for me, it's simplicity is perfect.
Hope it could help to speed up your workflow.

@JP: Thanks for the great suggestion! Entering new tasks into Nirvana's mobile app is too slow for me so using Mailme Text is a great solution. I'm also trying out Mailme Voice for times when I can't type.

Oh now that is brilliant. Thanks for the find.

Elbert,
What are the setting for MailMe Text to work?
Server = ?
Port = ?
Secure connection = on or off ?
Support Staff 10 Posted by Elbert McLaughlin on 07 Aug, 2010 11:26 AM
@proximo -
the server/port prefs in MailMe Text are for *your* email service provider, not nirvana!
so if you have a gmail account, for example:
- Server: smtp.gmail.com
- Port: 465 or 587
- Secure connection: Yes
- username: your gmail address
- password: your gmail password
the only thing that is nirvana specific is the "your e-mail address" -- which is the ***@nirvanahq.com email-to-inbox address that appears in your nirvana account settings.
clear as mud?! let me know if i'm not making any sense, as often happens. :-)

in other words, MailMe Text doesn't interact with Nirvana's inbound mail server directly. it is looking for a mail relay (gmail, yahoo, your corporate mail server) to connect to, through which emails will be sent on to Nirvana.

I'm sorry I didn't clarify the settings at my begin post. I'm a lot on nerd fora where this kind of knowledge is common knowledge (I hope I'm not stepping on any toes here).
If you have a gmail account you can chose the gmail option and al settings are made for you. If not, and you don't know the server settings for your e-mail, I suggest to signup for gmail.

The problem is that Forwarding Filters in Gmail don't work. They have not worked for a very long time.
I purchased both, MailMe Text and MailMe Voice.
Nice apps to capture stuff quicker than my previous options.
Thanks

Hi,
In this case gmail is used as an e-mail gateway and only to send mail (smtp). Filtering and forwarding is not needed because you will sent the mail dirctly to your nirvana account from your gmail account.
Grtz,
JP

@JP,
What I was trying to do is use Mailme Text to send my thoughts to my Gmail inbox quickly which it does.
I then set up a filter in Gmail to add a "Todo" tag to all the incoming Mailme: emails so that they stand out. This worked great.
In that same filter I also ask Gmail to forward the emails from Mailme: to my Nirvana email and this is where things break down.
The forwarding filter for gmail has been broken for a very long time and you can find many discussion about it on Google.
If this worked, I could have had my Nirvana inbox populated by Mailme Text via my gmail account. Don't work.
I would have also liked for this to work with Mailme: Voice but Nirvana does not support attachments, so this would not work anyway.
I also found out that you can't set Mailme: Text and Mailme: Voice to different emails which I consider a major flaw.
If only I could get Siri to sent a confirmation email to Nirvana in html format, I would have the best of both mailme: text and voice at the same time. Trying to get Siri support's help on this one.

For those who aren't totally satisfied with MailMe, I suggest you check out "Note2Inbox" by AppTight. I bought it yesterday and really like it.
You can:
Another nice thing about this is that now I can use MailMe Voice because I can set it to send mails to my Gmail account.
17 Posted by Proximo on 23 Aug, 2010 07:38 AM
@Lasse,
I own both the Mailme: Text and Voice apps. I was so disappointed that both apps would send the information to one email account.
I wanted Mailme: Voice to send input to Gmail since Nirvana can't handle attachments yet and I wanted Mailme: Text to send input to Nirvana.
You can't do it and Mailme: Text won't work with Nirvana because it requires server information.
The app you mention sounds interesting, especially if it can send input directly to the Nirvana email without needed to know all the server information.
As for Mailme: Voice. It's nice, but I still find Siri much better. Not as easy to send a voice message but it at least transcribes it to text and allows me to send it to any email from my contact list.
I still use Siri as my main capture tool which allows me to speak what is on my mind and sends it directly to Nirvana as text in my inbox.
I use Mailme: text only when I am in meetings or public places.

@Proximo,
"Mailme: Text won't work with Nirvana because it requires server information." What do you mean? MM Text certainly worked for me.
When I found out that you can't enter separate email accounts for MM Text and MM Voice I wrote the developer about this. His answer was that most users preferred it this way, that he'd consider making this optional but that this was rather low in priority. And since forwarding via Gmail doesn't work with Nirvana, I'm glad I've found Note2Inbox. BTW, I forgot to mention that it's faster than MM Text because you don't have to wait for a note to be sent before you can start typing a new one or before you can exit the app. And it only costs .99 $.
As for Siri, I've never heard about it and can't find it in the app store. I guess it's only available in English speaking countries. But MM Voice works nicely for me.

@Lasse,
I guess I am just confused about Mailme: Text because I am not able to send messages directly into my Nirvana inbox. I must send them to Gmail and then manually forward them to Nirvana.
As for Siri, it's an amazing app. It's so amazing that Apple bought the company and will probably offer their amazing voice services across the iOS in the future.
Also Dragon Dictation works very well. Dragon Dictation now has an email option and it will take my voice and send it as text directly into Nirvana.
Siri and Dragon Dictation are both Free.

@Proximo,
thanks a lot for the tip about Dragon Dictation! I just gave it a try and it works really well. I'm slow when it comes to typing text messages so if the first impression holds, then this will definitely be my new "secretary". :)
As for MM Text, you can send the messages directly to your Nirvana inbox. All you have to do is enter the Nirvana inbox address in the "Your e-mail address" field.

For the ones that bought MM: text and use gmail my configuration is:
address: 86970(fake)***@nirvanahq.com
server: smtp.gmail.com
port: 587
username: ***@gmail.com
password: mygmailpass
secure connection: on
The configuration will send directly to nirvanahq from my gmail account and do not have to forward my mail by gmail. For my workflow this is perfect I only have my mail in the inbox of nirvana.
@Proximo It is a shame that MM: voice uses the same mail address as MM: text (and visa versa)!

Nice, i'd just been looking at the Nirvana API post, thinking i would write the simplest of 'capture' apps.. but really MailMe does everything i need
Ideally i'd like a full feature native iphone app for Nirvana, but one that defaults to simple capture on startup
23 Posted by Proximo on 25 Aug, 2010 08:56 PM
@JP
Thanks for the tip. I was doing it the hard way. Going to change it now.
I do wish that MM:Voice will allow a different address. For now I have been using Dragon dictation to forward what I say directly into Nirvana. There is no way to automate what email to send your dictation too, but I found it to be easy and safe to do while I drive.
At least I am not texting an entire message like many people do on the road today. I say what I need captured and then click on the email button, type the letter "n" and it auto fills my nirvana email and hit send. Takes about 3 seconds.
Once Nirvana accepts attachments, the MM: apps will be great collection tools. I still wish MM:Voice would dictate like Dragon. I still don't like opening a task/email and loading the audio file to hear what I was thinking. :-(
24 Posted by Proximo on 26 Aug, 2010 12:50 PM
@JP,
The settings worked great.
Now I am using MM:Text for capturing my thoughts and using Dragon Dictation to capture my thoughts while driving. They both send my input to Nirvana inbox. I am considering Note2Inbox as Lasse suggested because I don't like my subject to be the notes of my task. In most cases I don't input that much text in my notes, but when I get too descriptive with MM:Text, I get a very long subject line that is repeated in the notes section. I don't like that much.
It would be great if the future Nirvana app had a quick text entry and voice entry for capturing. This is something that none of the current GTD iPhone apps offer and would set them apart.
When launching the app, you should have 3 HUGE buttons. Text Capture, Voice Capture and Nirvana. This will make it easy to capture your ideas while giving you a HUGE Nirvana button to dive into the app if needed.

@Lasse,
Just purchased Note2Inbox for the added benefits you mentioned. :-)
I would rather give my money to Nirvana as soon as they start making an iPhone app.
26 Posted by Lasse on 26 Aug, 2010 02:23 PM
@Proximo: I totally agree! In fact, I'd be perfectly willing to pay Omnifocus-type sums of money for a Nirvana iPhone app. But I'm glad I have nice capturing apps to hold me over until then. BTW, now that I've use Dragon Dictation for a few days I have to say that I'm surprised about how well it works. I now try to type as little as possible because dictating is just so much faster.
27 Posted by Proximo on 26 Aug, 2010 09:03 PM
@Lasse,
Glad you like Dragon Dictation. I like Note2inbox, so thanks for mentioning it.
28 Posted by Lasse on 05 Oct, 2010 07:18 PM
Just wanted to let you know that I've found an app that makes capturing even faster and easier than Note2Inbox. It's called One Tap Mail and has several advantages:
So basically you just tap the icon and start typing in one idea after another. Capturing couldn't be any faster! Price: .99$ / .79 Euro.
29 Posted by Proximo on 06 Oct, 2010 06:47 PM
@Lasse,
You are costing me a fortune. :-)
I will check it out. If I keep this up, I will never be able to leave Apple. lol

@Proximo: But since time is money you'll be so much richer for it! :)

I might be missing something here (and I am an Android user, not iPhone) but for free, I have a home page shortcut to Nirvana Task, an entry in my contacts list. I had to give it my own phone number, but then I was able to create a shortcut to it, and define the default action as Send Email. I hit the shortcut and it launches an email, into which I voice record the subject and send. Voila - new task.
