"Next" doesn't seem to be working as expected...
Hi, I'm a new user and I love the flash and function of the site! I'm having a problem with the behavior of the "next" area. I drag tasks there but they don't appear there. Even more oddly, if I drag a task from the "today" area to the "next" area, it removes the task from today and doesn't place it under "next!" This is unexpected to me, but perhaps I don't have a grasp on how this area is supposed to work. I see that there are some preferences for it... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'd just like to "ditto" that - even some information in the top bar about WHY what I tried to make work didn't work would be helpful.

Followed the advice in this thread: http://help.nirvanahq.com/discussions/problems/342-next-is-only-pop...
That allowed me to at least have Next not be blank; though the functionality doesn't seem to match my expectations. Must explore it some more...

Sorry, spamming a bit here...
It looks like all Next can do is show me an exact duplicate of my "Today" items (which is useless...) or show me all of my tasks and projects, except for those items which I have set to be "waiting" on someone.
Which is not quite useless, but some of my projects have sequential elements, so seeing "step 10" in "Next" right along with "step 2" isn't so great.
Am I misunderstanding the purpose of Next? What is the purpose of Next?
Or is this simply one of those Beta things?

Hi, this is beta.
The core action list is 'next', 'today' is an accompanying list, it is a subset of 'next'. T ⊂ N. If you look at the superset, you should see all the subsets as well (almost, because you still can't attach project's actions to the 'next' list).
This might be a little bit confusing. In the future 'today' and 'next' might be unified. In the end it's not going to be anything more, than just having the possibility to filter starred items right away inside the 'next' list. I feel there is no need for separating them, if you can incorporate the filtering the same way as tags are used right now.
It all depends on the devs. :)

I have the same problem. Dragging a task from 'today' into next simply removes the task from today (and next) altogether. They only remain in the assigned Project.

Ah, helps to read all the comments first... I've followed the detail in the link provided by @Matt, seems to have resolved the display problem for now...

Thanks Matt for the tip! It at least adds items to my Next Action List. Once I can select a single Next Action for my projects, then it will act like GTD is supposed to IMO. Each project will have a sequence of events. Once a task is complete in Next Actions, a new one can be labeled to move along the project...
I am not fond of all my project tasks to show up in Next Actions, but it will do for now...

I agree. I would prefer to see only the tasks I have been assigned as next actions here, not all projects within a task.

There is a major update coming that will give us a "Unified Next List".
This will address most of these issues.

@hallucngn - Thanks; that's much more the functionality that I was expecting Next to have. It was a bit jarring to have it empty; and frustrating that drag and drop didn't do anything (whereas the item just above it, and the item just below it, both support drag and drop).
@Proximo - Thank you for the links; some of the particulars go above my head but in general it sounds like that's much more what Next should be used for.
Of course, I walked into this knowing it was Beta, so it's all good.
