Sub-Projects

Hey Guys-

I was wondering if anyone knows a good way to handle subprojects in Nirvana. I often have big-overarching projects (such as classes) that often have smaller sub-projects that I would like to be grouped in a logical way. This is so I can see the tasks on the major project as a whole, but be able to drill down to a specific as needed.

A good example of this is my Senior Seminar class, where I have a personal and team based project going at any one time. I would like to keep both of these projects "under" my senior seminar project, but logically separated underneath.

Anyone know of a good way of doing this within Nirvana? Or if I have the wrong idea altogether? :)

Thanks!

There are two ways you can solve this problem.

    1. Create a new Area of Focus called Senior Seminar and then have two project under them for the personal and team based tasks.

    2. Create two projects for the personal and team based tasks under an existing area of focus(called School?), and tag all the tasks in those projects with "SeniorSeminar". In the tag cloud you will see this new tag appear. When you click on the tag "SeniorSeminar", Nirvana will show you all the task related to the tag in both projects.

Personally, I would choose option 2.

Good luck in your class! I remember my Senior project class being brutal!

Thanks for the response, Yash. I agree that #2 is probably the best way to do this is in Nirvana.

However, it would be pretty sweet if Nirvana supported sub projects natively!

Moving this to the suggestions thread.

Yash has given you some good advice here.

Many of us have requested sub-projects and it's something Nirvana really needs to do. I can't imagine anyone saying that they would not ever need sub-projects. I deal with them more often than I have in the past and it seems the more complicated a project gets, the more chances you will need sub-projects.

I will create another post under suggestions, to try and give this the attention it deserves.

I found the post that is calling for nested projects, apparently you have too. I posted a somewhat lengthy example, hopefully they will catch on :).
