Printing project or task due dates
When I print my list of projects, there is not a column showing due dates. I really, really hope you folks are going to dramatically improve the printing capabilities. It would be most welcomed!

Hi David - Chrome's ability to print properly is, how shall we put it, a second-class citizen to its screen rendering prowess. The folks at Google have some work to do there. Try printing from FireFox and let us know if you are still missing due dates? We're really hoping that Google engineers fix these problems soon!

Hi there,
I have the latest version of Chrome, so I guess that is not going to work. I also have the latest version of Firefox and it does not work either. I have the Beta version of IE9 and it does not work. That is three different browsers. I will not try an older version of a browser. Exactly what browser should I use with Nirvana? I was under the impression that Google Chrome is what you guys were pushing as the best to use. ??

I am sorry -- I did not mean to sound flippant or too critical. I just would like to be able to print what I see on the screen. I am mostly digital, but sometimes it is nice to have a printout for meetings.
I still think Nirvana is outstanding and the best!

@David.
I agree that printing is very important and I also like to bring a handout to a meeting. I just think it's rude to open my iPhone and do things with it during a meeting because people may think I am doing something else. :-)

@proximo - are you having difficulty printing as well ? i just tried printing here and it printed flawlessly. harmpfh. trying to figure out what is going on...

@Elbert - I just tested a print from my Today list and it worked just fine.
I am running Chrome 6.0.472.63
Good to hear from you by the way. :-)
I just created a post called "The Calm before the Strom" where I mention how quiet the Nirvana Developers have been lately. I know you guys must be working hard on the next major update. Hope you are all doing well.

I just tried printing again -- I have the latest version of Google Chrome (6.0472.63) -- and it still does not print out the due dates column at all -- no matter if it is Today, Next, or Projects list. I also tried printing landscape and it makes no difference. I am running Windows Vista and am printing to a Dell 2230D printer (new). Vista is up to date as well through Windows updates.
Let me try printing to another printer...will be back...

Okay -- I have tried two additional very high-end printers with plenty of memory. The result is still the same -- no due date column. Is there a particular setting on Chrome that I should change? I am running the default settings as I have not changed anything.

Any word here on this? I tried printing from a home computer to a different computer and using FireFox, Chrome, or Internet Explorer. The result is the same -- no due date column will print. The output I get from Google Chrome is the best -- it is a mess from Internet Explorer 8 (and the Beta 9) and the most recent version of FireFox.
Could this be an issue with Windows Vista? All the computers I have tried have Vista as their OS.

I meant home computer printing to a different printer.... :)

Hi Elbert,
I am very disillusioned by not being able to get a good print-out. I fully realize that Nirvana is a Beta, but I have moved my entire GTD system into Nirvana and this is a real deal-breaker for me. I know you folks are exceedingly busy and are doing everything you can to get this next huge upgrade ready for launching. But I would like some encouraging words that this is a priority and will be fixed. Am I the only one that has experienced these kinds of printing problems?

@David.
Could you take a screen shot of the Print Preview or scan what comes out and attach a jpg file?
14 Posted by david-drake on 01 Oct, 2010 10:07 PM
Yes -- I will scan a printout and post it here or send it to you if you provide me with an email address.

Hi Proximo,
Here is a scan of a printout. Let me know if you have any questions.

I get printout of due dates (for tasks that actually have a due date) on Firefox 3.6.10.
17 Posted by david-drake on 04 Oct, 2010 03:06 PM
This is quite intriguing....I try to print from the most recent version of FireFox and I do NOT get any of the due dates to print. Is this a Windows Vista issue? What OS are you running?

I am on Win 7.
19 Posted by david-drake on 04 Oct, 2010 06:30 PM
Sounds like this may be a Vista issue -- is there anyway to adapt to Vista, Nirvana folks....or am I going to have to order a new computer with Windows 7? The latter would not be a bad thing. :)

Maybe @Elbert and the gang should consider something like wkhtmltopdf, where instead of printing it just generates a pdf that would be the same in all browsers.
21 Posted by david-drake on 04 Oct, 2010 06:44 PM
Yes -- that would be great! I certainly am feeling all alone here with these printing issues. As I said before, I am mostly digital, but I do need a printout to take to meetings and so forth.

@Steven - That is an interesting idea... though not one I think that will be quick in being implemented on our end, given our heavy workload as of late.
@David - With any luck, the next release of Nirvana will print correctly on your machine directly out of the gate... and if not, we will be willing to put more effort into tweaking things there (rather than what is currently live on nirvanahq.com)
Still... I really don't understand why things won't print correctly in Vista. You'd think big ol' microsoft could get it right so that little ol' nirvana wouldn't have to sweat bullets all the time. Harumphf.

Hi Elbert,
Thanks for your kind response! I am hoping that the pending release will fix my printing woes, believe me! I was not kidding about the new Win 7 machine...will get one if that is what it takes. Vista has been a royal pain in the butt....and I have heard nothing but good things about Windows 7.
Are you folks close to release of the upgrade?

@David - barring any unforeseen gotchas (famous last words), before the end of the month. Finger, toes and eyes crossed...

@Elbert
Is this a hint of a MAJOR update that may be ready?
Sorry, had to ask.
26 Posted by mapjr on 07 Oct, 2010 02:31 PM
@Dvid--my suggestion might merely indicate my ignorance, but would your printing in landscape instead of portrait help?
27 Posted by david-drake on 07 Oct, 2010 03:40 PM
I have tried to print in landscape, which I stated in a post somewhere in this line, but it does not help -- even with plenty of space, the due dates do not print.
But a good suggestion... :)
