Nirvana 2: Autocomplete tags not as streamlined as it was

when adding tags to a task, you used to start typing and it would autocomplete when you hit tab or return

now, it looks better, gives you a drop down list, but the default is to create a new tag with the letters you have typed so far, this makes it much slower than it used to me

check out gmail labels.. the 'create new' action is at the bottom of the list, since it is more common to be wanting an existing tag than to create a new one

    Yes definitely.
You should have a new tag only and only if you decided to create a new one. And yes, gmail do it better!

To select tags (contexts), a better option was to have a dropdown with a checkbox near the tag

Also, I observed what I think is a bug: several of my tasks - the ones that belong to a AoF, but no all, as 2 equal tags with the AoF name, like this: AoF: xpto in old version becomes tag: xpto xpto in the new version

Yeah, that got me too at first too.

It appears that to select an existing tag you have to navigate to it using the down/up keys. Then TAB will complete it correctly. That's ok with me, but not the most intuitive system IMO. Pretty much everybody will first try to auto-complete an existing tag by using TAB, inadvertently creating new tags named "Wor", "Wo", "Per", "Perso", etc... :-)

That being said, I think some GUIs do work that way (arrow select, then TAB), though I far prefer to just hit TAB to complete an existing tag. After all it's far more common to need to select an existing tag.
GUI question though then: how would one create a new tag using the keyboard? My first answer would be to use google's interface example - ENTER uses what you've typed so far. However, ENTER in Nirvana 2 "Saves changes" and closes the form. Suggestion? Ah, wait. It's already in the interface. Simply hit SPACE and the tag will be created. (i.e. type "Person" then SPACE and the Tag "Person" is created).

So, to summarize, I suggest to make the 1st option below the default:
    1) TAB autocompletes the 1st available tag option by default.
    2) Arrow-TAB selects an alternative tag (as is).
    3) SPACE creates a new tag (as is).

    • 1 I agree.. the new tags feature of Nirvana 2 sucks... I stick with Nirvana 2 because I'm hopping to get the promised features such as better tag management and recurring tasks.

The more I use Nirvana 2 the more I feel as you do.

I have to remember to arrow down most of the time or just keep typing the entire tag name out.

    Grrrrrr.
