N2: Sync doesn't work properly...
Am I the only one who has problems with sync in N2?
Yesterday, sunday, I make some changes at night at home (Mac os X, Chrome). Today, Monday, I have to make the changes again in the office (Windows XP, Firefox)...
What is the problem?

I am running Chrome on Windows 7 and have no issues so far. I run Windows 7 and Chrome from home and work, so there is never a change in my browser or OS.

Just wanted to report the same problem. I made changes to N2 at home (Chrome 7) which didn't show in N2 mobile on my iPhone (maybe because I'm using the Atomic Web browser?). I tried syncing a couple of times, which didn't work, and then killed the browser a few times until it worked to some degree. It finally showed all my tasks but the order had changed. At work (Chrome 7) I had to sync the web app numerous times until it showed all my tasks. Unfortunately it adopted the mobile browser's order, not the one I had created at home.

I'll try using Safari on my iPhone (even though I like the full screen option in the Atomic Web browser). However, I've used Atomic Web ever since N2 was released and I've only been having the sync problem since the end of last week (approximately).

If you are using N2 as your primary GTD system, as in you're screwed if something goes awry, please please please use the supported browsers. We have enough on our hands making sure things work with what we know, before embarking on browsers we don't know.
DESKTOP
Windows: Chrome 7, Firefox 4, Internet Explorer with Chrome Frame 7 installed
Mac OS X: Chrome 7, Firefox 4, Safari 5
MOBILE
iOS 4.x: Safari
Android 2.2: built in browser
N2 may or may not work elsewhere, but we will not bend over backwards to address issues on other browsers until a much later date, if ever.

@Elbert,
I'm aware that I'm using Atomic Web at my own risk!
And I'm fine if you don't put energy into solving issues with other iOS browsers as I plan to upgrade to your native Nirvana iPhone app anyway - someday, at least. :) I was only wondering because I haven't experienced this issue until a few days ago.

@Elbert
Thanks! I was clicking in "Update firefox" and the browser say "No updates available" so I think I have the last version... however I have the v.3.6...
I donwnloada firefox 4 and everything works perfectly.
Thanks

I have the same problem using supported browsers - chrome 7 and safari iOS 4.x
It's hard to track down the exact issue but for me it seems to be around changing dates and 'starring' 'unstarring'
e.g. Sometimes when I unstar from my focus list in chrome the task disappears as it should - but then I view in safari on my iphone and even after several syncs and refreshes it's still there

I have this issue and I am using a supported browser - Chrome 7.0.517.44 on Windows 7 64bit.
I've only just noticed this - two days worth of changes are not syncing up from my PC, although changes made with the mobile app on my iPhone are pushed down.
I'm afraid I'm not sure how to replicate.
Elbert help! Is there anything I can do or do I just have to make notes of what I've changed as best I can and clear my cache? Thank you.

Partial relief. I've been able to get all my new and altered projects to re-sync by going into each one on my PC and editing the project title slightly - this then causes them to appear on other devices.
Trouble is as I;ve already moved inbox items out of my PC to other places (made projects etc) I cant edit them and get them to sync. So a clear cache awaits for Nirvana on my PC. Ah well.
But hey! It's the price you pay for playing with some cool new beta software!

More on this. Not sure if this is related.
I noticed that there are some missing focus items in my focus list.
I searched for them, once found they then appeared.
But - some items I could not find in search, but searching for the project and then expanding it caused them to appear in focus.
Lots of weird stuff going on here :(

Last post!
One thing - to get Nirvana to completely reset I had to not just clear my cache but cookies too. Bit of a pain as all sites are of course affected, not just Nirvana.

Elbert and co - any comment on this? Have you identified the issue / got a fix in the pipeline?
This is a pretty serious issue for me and I'm thinking of reverting to N1 for now, but I really really don't want to :(

Just had a major problem with syncing. I did a thorough weekly review on my laptop yesterday while on the train (i.e. I was offline). This morning when I opened Nirvana on my PC at work, I realized that I had forgotten to sync the changes when I got home yesterday night. So before I did anything in Nirvana, I called my wife, asked her to open Nirvana on my laptop and click on Sync. After a few moments I clicked Sync on my end but nothing happened. So we repeated the process a few times, closed and re-opened the browsers (both Chrome 7), but still to no avail. When I asked my wife to create a test task and then to sync the tasks, the test task showed up in my list here at work but none of the other changes were synced. In other words, except for the test task both lists remained unchanged.

Correction: When I reviewed my lists more thoroughly here at work, I noticed that new tasks got synced but changes to existing tasks and to the system itself (re-named tags, created new tags, deleted an Area) didn't. So here at work my list still says "Call M." and at home it says "Call Melanie". No amount of syncing changes either list. Any suggestions? Already tried clearing the cache and cookies here at work.

For me, i have loose all data on my iphone on Safari (no task, no contexts, to AoR).
All works on my laptop with Chrome 7 on Windows Seven.
Like Lasse, if I create a task on the iphone, i have the task on my laptop.
Last week (on the build 115), the data on the iphone is going back when i sync on wifi network at home. I can't test the wifi think today...
How can we purge the data on the iphone ?

Update: After some more cache-clearing, syncing and re-starting Chrome, I was able to sync everything I created (tasks and tags). However, changes to existing tasks and tags were lost, i.e. names, notes, dates etc. remained as they were before I changed them. Fortunately I knew what I was getting myself into when I migrated to N2.

Same problem here. I have loads of tasks in my mobile inbox which I have completed and archived from my desktop. IOS4.1 Safari plus Windows with Chrome 8.0.552.224, and Mac OS X with latest version of Safari. I've tried to clear the cache/cookies/history on the phone, and nothing works.

My experience was that my mobile device was correct and in sync with the cloud, it was Chrome on my PC that was showing changes but not syncing them up, and I had to clear cookies and cache there.
Again, like you I use three different devices, mac (home), pc (work) and phone.
Since my original problems I've been careful not to have Nirvana loaded at the same time on my PC and my Mac and have not had any issues since - I would go to work leaving Nirvana open on my Mac (I give it a dedicated monitor!) and then use it on my PC. This may have caused the problems.
Elbert and co - have you been able to replicate? Is there a fix in the pipeline?

Any news on these sync problems?
Support Staff 22 Posted by Elbert McLaughlin on 21 Jan, 2011 03:20 PM
We're still looking into this. It's been a hard problem to reproduce, but a critical one to resolve. My favorite type of bug. (not).
Rather than continue to nibble around the edges, we've revisited the notion of client-side sync activity logging, along with online/offline status logging, to try and find some correlation. Also working on a status panel to visually indicate if there are un-synced items on your device (and how many), as well last known changes posted to the cloud. Without this we're just shooting darts in a fog of speculation.
If anyone happens to be able to reproduce this problem consistently, it would be mighty helpful...

I'm having a similar problem. I'm using Google Chrome 7 on my laptop, and everything works great there. However, I cannot get my tasks to sync with my iPhone (3GS running iOS 4.2.1). The sync was working fine on my iPhone until a week or so ago. Now, when I push the "sync" button on my phone, it refreshes the page to exact what was there before, even though I've made dozens of changes on my desktop.
Help!

Hmm. Apparently, just complaining about it publicly made my iPhone start working again. Odd.
26 Posted by Neil on 13 Feb, 2011 11:05 AM
Jessica, in my experience, your iPhone was working all along, it was your browser on your laptop not syncing up to the Nirvana servers.
On my laptop I use Chrome but have now also installed Firefox which I periodically use to check the sync is working OK.
Some things to try which seem to be working for me - as I haven't had any issues recently.
Always make sure you sync then close your browser if you're leaving your computer. Leaving it running for long periods of time, or accessing Nirvana from a different computer while it was still running on my PC at home may have contributed to my issues (though I haven't replicated yet, sorry Elbert).

Experienced this bug again yesterday. It happened when I started setting up my new pc which has Windows 7 installed (my old one runs on Vista). This made me realize that whenever I've experienced this bug, it was when I used Nirvana on computers with differing operating systems (used to be Vista at home and XP at work).

This comment was split into a new private discussion: N2: Sync doesn't work properly...
Still experiencing this problem. Since returning to Nirvana full time, I've had it happen about once a week. :( On most days the effect is minor but I just did a thorough review at work only to find out at home that the changes hadn't synced. :(
I'm only using the latest versions of the recommended browsers.
Maybe I'll have to try Neil R's suggestion of manually syncing before I exit Nirvana at whichever computer I'm using...
29 Posted by Lasse on 26 Sep, 2011 07:08 PM
Correction: Only the changes I've made to Focus didn't sync. New items that I moved from the Inbox to their respective lists are where I moved them.

@Lasse -- it would be really helpful if you could start a new thread when bringing up an issue like this rather than tacking it on to the back of a 6 month old one -- even if seemingly related -- thanks.
That said, I'm going to split this off to private support where I can help you and get some more specifics.
