Three options in top right of task area — what are they?

This is probably a stupid question, but I can't find the answer. There are three buttons at the top right of the screen, one is a hyphen, another an equals sign, and another the infinity symbol. When I select different ones, nothing appears to happen (but I don't have tags, or anything like that). What are these for? Thanks!

    Oh good call. I didn't have notes for any of my tasks, which is why it didn't show up. Now I understand... Thanks!
