Current state of Contacts
Hello,
Just moving in to Nirvana. The first thing I notice is that the
app is quite snappy. This is great - especially for having such a
snazzy UI.
Here's my first question. And yes - I did a search of the fora & faqs and couldn't find this addressed anywhere.
What is the current state of the contacts feature? There's a
space to enter in an email address for a contact, but I don't see
any evidence that assigning a task to a contact makes use of that.
Is it currently only used as a sorting tool in the "Waiting For"
category? Or is there more to it?
I'm assuming you're moving toward some kind of delegation
system. If so, here's my two cents. I'd love to have email sent
upon delegation, but from my use of other systems, I'd like to see
the following:
1) Those emails need either to be run past me upon sending with an
opportunity to edit, or they need to include my own customized
intro text. The pre-fab text on auto-generated emails is pretty bad
usually.
2) Those emails need to clearly indicate the delegation without
requiring the contact to join Nirvana or log-in to anything.
Delegations that require signing up for something feels a little to
sales-pushy and puts a hurdle in front of my colleague that ought
not be there.

Hello schelske,
Glad to hear that the performance for you is snappy. Love it.
To answer your questions about Contacts....
Yes, currently the Contacts feature is linked only to Waiting For. It's a simple way of designating tasks that someone else needs to complete before you can move on with your project and other tasks.
And, yes, your assumption about this leading toward a delegation and sharing feature is bang on.
Good suggestion re: being able to preview and edit automatic emails. I've made note of it for the team. Agreed that pre-fab text is not only bad, but not all necessary.
100%. We spoke about this internally and I while I use a certain system to organize myself I don't want to force someone else to use my system and have them resist. It doesn't benefit me and forces me to use 2 or more methods of keeping organized which makes no sense.
Thanks for your great feedback and suggestions. Keep them coming.
Christiane

Thanks for your talk-back. I appreciate it, and makes being a beta tester more fun. I'm glad to hear about the delegation system. That's a huge bonus over other systems I have used, where delegation was only trust-worthy if all your colleagues use the same system. But that never happens in the real world. I have employees who use moleskines and others who use intensely detailed GTD systems. My delegation has to work for both of them. Thanks!
