Is there a way to open links (in a task note) in a new tab/window?
Appreciate any help on how to do this: I have a link in a task note (oftentimes a link to the mail message in Gmail) that I'd like to be able to open in a new tab in Chrome. As it is now, when I click the link, it automatically opens "within" the Nirvana 2 tab which then requires me to use the browser back button to get back to N2 once I finish reading the mail thread. Unfortunately, right-clicking the link within N2 opens the N2 "sub menu" for Due Date, Snooze Until, Waiting For, ... Thanks much.

I demonstrated how this works differently for me with a Youtube video on my channel.
Here is a link.

Not sure why it's not working for some people. Have you tried a middle click with your mouse? This is a default on opening a link in a new tab with chrome.

Thanks Proximo, but alas, the same behavior that you show does not work for me (Chrome 10.0.648.133). And I even disabled my extensions (I only had one - Better Gmail) and I still see that strange behavior. Yes, "middle click" does open the link in a new tab, but unfortunately middle click for my mice is pushing down on a scroll wheel - which isn't the most "natural" action. Windows 7 Ultimate, 32-bit desktop. However, I just tried on my laptop (Windows 7 Ultimate, same Chrome browser level, but with 64-bit architecture) and it WORKS fine. No idea whether 32 v. 64 related or not, but throwing it out there as food for thought.

Update from last night's post: definitely NOT 32 vs. 64 bit. On this same laptop where links automatically opened a new tab in Chrome, today they are back to opening within the same tab as Nirvana :-(. So, some "interaction" is now causing the links within Nirvana to open differently than yesterday. Very very strange. Appreciate any suggestions from others. Thanks much. -Anthony

Try "ctrl" + click. It's what I use and it should work for you.

Yep, "Ctrl"Click works fine. Thanks for the workaround. Wish we could figure out why this is happening though?

Actually, I can tell you that it's going to be fixed in the next release.
I'm doing some testing on Build 153 at this point, and it automatically opens in a new window, without the use of the Ctrl key.
Hope that helps.

That's terrific David - thanks for the update (and the awesome product)!

I guess I am secretly using build 153 before anyone else.
lol
Just to make sure I am clear with my video. I am using a standard left click and it works fine. Using Ctrl + click or the middle wheel button are both work around's.

aha! Here's a bit of interesting behavior - at least one reason why it works for some and not others I suspect -- at least it works this way on build 140 for me.
If you DO NOT include the protocol on the link (http:// or https://) then it WILL by default open in a new tab -- assuming it recognizes the entry as a link (starts with 'www.' is the only entry recognized option I believe)
If you DO include the protocol, then you need to use Ctrl+click, etc. to open in a new tab.
Build 153 (in testing) - opens in a new tab regardless of whether the protocol is entered, but will still only recognize items beginning with 'www.' as being a link, without the protocol prepended.
Hope that was slightly clearer than mud.

Thanks David. Are you saying that links that DO include http or https WILL REQUIRE a ctrl+click even after the 153 build? That would be unfortunate since most copy/paste of links (ie from Gmail) into task notes carry forward the http bit.

@agold - I was going to write what I thought was a helpful response clarifying David's post as I thought I understood what he meant......until I then re-read it and realised I didn't understand what he meant!
:-)

No - they won't require a Ctrl+click, that was the change that was made.
What remains the same, is that only text that starts with - www. - will be recognized as a link without the protocol prepended. valid targets like help.nirvanahq.com would have to be stored as
http://help.nirvanahq.com
in order to be recognized as a link at all - but then would work with just a click, no Ctrl+click required
Sorry for the misunderstanding - I thought my original post was a bit confusing.

@David - Now I get ya!
You will be pleased to know, however, that what you meant before I realised I didn't understand was actually what I thought you meant in the first place.........
(I need a lie down)
