Data Backup? (Part 2)

As long as I'm at it, I see the thread I started on this has been closed.

What's the status of being able to backup data via export, other than email, which isn't really usable?

I'm living in N1, but jumping onto N2, I see it's not there either, though I thought it was at one point.

What's up with backup? If I lose my data, I'm history.

You can export data in N2 to either csv, xml, or json formats.

    Thanks David.

It's been a while since I looked at N2, and looking at it now, I thought Export was a link directly after clicking on username.

    D'OH! Where is it?

Also, I'm assuming this is NOT going to be a feature now for N1. Is that correct?

No further development on N1 is planned.

If you're not on N2, you probably can't see it.
It's on the account dashboard settings that are shown after login.

It was a little laborious to find the export button to click, hidden in account settings. It would be better to make it more visible!

Another use for it is to make a paper copy of all items in my N2, if I am going to be away from any computers for some time. May be you should consider a Print button (with Print to File option).

But the question of Back-up is: how do I import? Suppose I make a good back-up on Monday, on Tuesday I mess up my data (or loose it for some reason), how do I put back my Monday data in my N2 account?

    Thanks,

    Vincenzo

I agree with Vincenzo that it would be great to make it easier to access the export button.

On another note, I just tried this for N2, but when I click the "Export as .csv" link, the process never completes.

    Why is this? Bug?

@Glenn - from what I can see based on your email address, you don't have an N2 account - you're on N1.

@Vincenzo - export, in its current state, was never intended as a back-up/restore option. More in the line of an export to use in other apps. It will be expanded in the future, and I suspect some sort of import process will be provided.

There is really no true reporting at this point, but if you do a browser print, in whatever view you're in, you see that there is a simple formatted output of that view's data.

David, I do have an N2 account, under a different username, that I've been using as a Sandbox.

I had a computer problem this morning, and once I re-booted, the back-up seems to work OK. Big improvement over the email dump.

@Glenn - I was beginning to suspect that.

So, there is a back-up/  restore facility?  Where? (or is it Sync, but Sync does not allow me to go back to the situation a few days ago, before I accidentally deleted, etc.)

Do I assume that N2 will add a Report menu?

    Vincenzo,

    There's a back-up only, NOT a restore.

@Vincenzo - re: backup/restore; not sure how I can better explain it than I did in post 7 here about the export. Reporting will be expanded in the future.
