Rearranging tasks

In views like Today, Next or Someday I can rearrange tasks by simply dragging them up or down. However, this only works if "All" tasks is selected. It would be nice if I could rearrange the tasks also when a certain tag is selected.

    Yes, this would be nice. But how would it know where do drop the task once you got back into the "All" view?

    You are right, this might be a little bit tricky. If a task is moved on top of a "restricted view" (e.g. @errands) there are at least two options in the "All" view: (1) It could move on top there as well; (2) it could replace the topmost (@errands) task but with other tasks (@office, etc.) still sitting above. I would prefer option (2) -- more a relative rearrangement instead of an absolute one in the "All" view.

    Yes, this is a tricky one, especially as (at some point soon) Nirvana will allow for compound filtering (eg, Home + Phone) -- which would add another layer of sort preservation complexity. It's not a difficult thing to implement technically, but would it not be too much sort management overhead in the day-to-day use of Nirvana?

    Trying to strike that balance between power in simplicity vs complexity. At the moment we've come down on the side of no sorting when lists are filtered, but could be persuaded if the discussion here gains some traction.

    One suggestion I have is that we keep Nirvana as Simple as possible. One problem I have with other services is that they have about 10 ways of doing the same thing and it makes the system difficult to use, understand, master and enjoy.

    Let's really think about what would make Nirvana functional as a GTD System and let's not overdue it.

    I agree. What I like at Nirvana is its simplicity. Filtering for single tags usually reduces the number of tasks I need to review significantly. So please better keep Nirvana simple! And I will focus on doing my tasks instead of moving them up or down in a list ;-)

    I agree too. Simplicity is better. However, it would be nice to have a few sort options (ie, due date, star, tag).

    Elbert, nice to hear that compound filtering is on the way!

    Now that I have been using Nirvana more, I do agree with Stephan's original suggestion. It would be nice to be able to re-arrange within a tag view.

    Either that or the ability to sort by tag in the "All" view. That would also allow for easy drag and drop for each tag.

    It is a hard balance to strike, because as all of you have said, Simplicity is the key.

    I'd suggest a 'Bump to top' option to move a task to the top of the list - useful for when lists are more than one screen long as the drag & drop gets clumsy.

    Shouldn't it auto sort by due dates, or at least have options for that, Love it so far

    @Chris,

    There currently is a "Due" tag that will filter all the task and show you only task with due dates. There currently is no easy way to sort by due date because you will still have to manually sort the task.

    Sorting options are in the works and I expect that it will include things like this.

    This discussion was asking for a feature that is now in place. You can filter by a tag and then sort your task.
