Lack of folders = horror

Hello,

My law office has recently merged with 3 other. As a result I have an absurd amount of projects to keep track of. I am finding more and more that without folder system I simply cannot manage to keep everything in order. The tags are sub-par solution at best because when I enter all the clients names I have about 20 tags displayed and that makes the screen super cluttered.

so yeah, big push for folders

    Hi MarcinGTD,

Until this is implemented in Nirvana, check out this system:

    http://power.me/gtd/learn-more/

I use this for my personal life as I have so many community boards and such that I wish to keep separate from my work, which is in Nirvana. They have multiple projects, sub-projects, folders -- one can create multiple layers.

I told my wife the same thing about me.

She told me that everyone sees things differently.

I know you probably are not willing to pay for something but you could try Basecamp or Teambox.

I only use the free account on Teambox while I was testing it for a work solution but it looks like a good tool for managing projects. It's more focused on collaboration so it may not be what you are looking for.

If not a collapsible list of Area/folders, then perhaps a scrollable Areas pop-up?

I have a large number of Areas of Focus, and unfortunately I cannot see my whole list on the pop-up.

I also have trouble navigating my Nirvana to do list and projects folders without the structure of subfolders and heirarchal tasks. It distracts me every time I visit my lists, and I start reanalyzing my tasks and their flow instead of cranking widgets. :-( I've even found myself not entering some less important tasks because I don't want to clutter my next box. Not good, I know.

Originally I thought I could hang in there and wait for folders or sub tasks, as launch from Beta was "right around the corner", and the folders seemed like a strong priority after that. But it has been months, literally, since the launch from Beta talk started, with so little information about a timeline. I am losing hope.

I'm also a lawyer and have had issues in the past keeping my lists to any sort of functionable length. Just a question: how do you have your Nirvana system set up at the moment?

I have an absurd amount of clients, both that I manage personally, or that I have others manage for me (but still need to keep track of) and I just couldn't imagine employing my tags as an effective client inventory. Instead, I employ a stricter implementation of GTD and use tags only for contexts: Calls/Drawing/Letters/Attendance, etc.

My client lists go into my project reference/support materials application (currently, springpad) and the only reference I have to clients in Nirvana is at the beginning of each individual task/project, ie. Client name: Draw Affidavit. There's no real need to sort this list, as though it is quite sizeabe, I find I'm able to more equitably spread my work time amongst my clients if they're unsorted. Ultimately, I focus my efforts on a task-by-task basis based on how much time and energy I have or if something is urgent, it'll get dragged to the top of the list.

I guess all I'm saying is, in my current implementation, subfolders would actually hinder me rather than help, as I'd be worried that having certain next actions hidden in subfolders would throw out the whole context/energy/time-based prioritisation of tasks.

But I'd love to hear how you have your GTD set up for lawyering!
