Sorting in Nirvana
Sorting is not possible while a tag filter is active.
We need the ability to sort task while using a tag filter. The way it works now, I must choose "All" in order to sort.
Sorting options for all views/focus.
We also need to have some sorting options while working in the different views or list. I would like to sort by Creation Date, Due date, Tag, Alphabetical, etc.

Working on it... solving this requires an overhaul of the way we store tasks and lists... which is currently being addressed as part of a major update involving Areas of Responsibility, Smartlists and compound tag filtering. Stay tuned...

Awesome.
Thanks

Any update on this?
I'm seeing now that sorting is something I sorely need. In addition to the fields Proximo mentioned, sorting by context is also needed. I'd like to be able to sort my Today and Next.
I'm going to be in my car for 3 hours today, so I'll have lots of time for calls, and would like to have all of those handy. I know I can filter them now, but for this trip, I'd like to have all tasks, grouped by context.
Thanks for such an awesome tool. Nirvana rocks.

I am on the road this weekend. 7 hour road trip, so I can really relate right now. Sorry if I don't respond as fast over the weekend. Will be busy and out of State.

Sorting is an important issue and related to that is the issue of where new tasks are added. In a response from Christiane (I have forgotten the name of the thread) there was talk about a switch that would allow for tasks to be added at the top of a list (or at the bottom if that is your preference). I also think that small letter n would add the task at the bottom and capital N would add the task at the top.
My preference is that taks should be added at the top for all lists. If I add something to a long list, my most recent entry will immediately disappear out ouf sight at the bottom of the list, which seems a bit counter intuitive to me.
Another sorting option pertains to the projects list. Say that you have a project with different tasks, some of which are also in the Today list. I would then like the Today items to be sorted automatically at the top of the projects list, since they are highest in priority to me (and if your preference is to have new items at the bottom of the list, the Today items could end up at the bottom of the list automatically).

@Elurven,
Great ideas and I agree that we need flexibility in the sorting options when and if they are implemented.

It's on our radar... hopefully we will be able to address this soon. In light of the new AoR "segmentation," sorting has taken on another dimension that I need to factor in to the solution.

Agree with all the above comments....
It grates a little to drag my Projects in to alphabetical order! :)

I concur. When using areas of focus, it seems to sort projects numerically/alphabetically, but in the general Project view, it doesn't.
I previously mentioned that maybe the ability to establish folders would help with this.
Thanks

Plus one for more storing flexibility! When you start to get. Lot of tasks into the acions folder this becomes imperative!
Like the idea of the "n" options for where a task gets added to the list.

Apart from Shift+n to add items at the top (or a user preference for this), being able to sort by different types of criteria would be very useful.
I have a project called "NOTES". The reason being, that there is no way to store just plain notes in Nirvana, that are not associated with any project. So my Notes project contains various miscellaneous information that I would like to be able to access from any computer. In this particular project, I would like to be able to sort alphabetically. But this is the only place where alphabetical sorting makes sense to me (although other users may disagree). So choosing how to sort, should be done individually for each list in Nirvana.

I think sorting is another problem that can be addressed with SmartLists. The sort of your display should be an option within your SmartList. (Can you tell I really want SmartLists?)

@Rique
Smart List are great.
We did have them in a limited beta version for a while and then they where removed.
