My Wish List (and reiterations of others)

Hey there,
Currently Love the interface and simplicity, but also love how there is a depth of features (such as Show in Today, Ticklers, etc.)

Coming from Nozbe, Todoist, RTM, Hiveminder and LotusLive Activities... here are a few ideas I hope you will consider.
Some are repeats of other Nirvanians (?), but a thought a +1 couldn't hurt :-)

[ ] Ability to save/convert a Project as a Template
I need a way to create templates for certain "projects" such as preparing a Meeting or Travel itinerary.
There are very few apps that do this. LotusLive is the only one I have see with this feature. The way in works in LotusLive is you simply create a list of todos, attachments, and notes and there is a button in the corner to convert it into a template. That way, you can take a completed Project and convert it to be reused later!

[ ] a calendar popup or give more flexible options in "Show in Today"
I like the "Show in Today", but I was also thinking about a "Hide Until" with more options. I have some tasks that I need to be reminded of, but they are not worth seeing until a month or a few weeks pass.

[ ] Attachments not just for tasks, but for projects.
It would be a nice to be able to add attachments, not on on the task level, but on the project level. For instance, I have a document that needs to be revised and added on to, and I want to break down what needs to be done to a single Document. Maybe create a small right-hand column where a list of attachment and links could be stored. Versioning of files would also be a dream feature.

[ ] a Hivemind-ish (Weekly) Review Inbox button.
Someone else suggested the idea and I'm glad I wasn't the only one who missed this feature in hiveminder! Many times I am away from my PC for a couple days, but I keep adding tasks from my cell (for RTM)... but going through 15-25 tasks in my inbox on a Monday can be overwhelming.
This could also be valuable for helping people migrate from another task/project manager. When/if you create an import tool, I expect there could be some miss-matched info (tag in a note, or a date in a tag, etc). A review button could help someone sort all those newly imported tasks.

[ ] a Hivemind-ish Brain Dump.
I heard a few people ask for a Quick Add feature similar to RTM (Which I use and would love!). But to take it to the next level, I would like to see a "brain dump" button next to the inbox that simply opens up a blank text box where you write multiple tasks and have Nirvana parse the information into individual tasks. Take a look at RTM's email Import feature the get an idea of how this could work.
http://www.rememberthemilk.com/services/email/#import

[ ] Ability to hide unused features
Honestly, this isn't a big one for me since things are so well laid-out as they are... but as you add features, I could how having this feature would be helpful for those who want to customize there "GTD" system. Toodledo had so man features that the GUI look so cluttered, they have a hide option, but it's still ugly. Just wanted to put it out there.

[ ] add COLORS to tags/projects
I love my Gmail labels and wished that someone out there would copy how Google does it with task tags. Color helps me visually organize. HiTask does this somewhat... but it's not attached to a tag or project... you can only color the task.

And of course, all the ones you've already heard:
[ ] Repeating tasks!! :-)
[ ] Text "Bar" on the top of the page to use a Quick Add feature. (How RTM does it.)
[ ] Quick Add using email and SMS. (see how RTM does it).
[ ] Notification by email/SMS.
[ ] Google Calendar integration.
[ ] Subtasks (the inline list is great for now!)

Last, but not least: Please make a Palm webOS App!
webOS is still a small space for task managers. There are zero web-based task/project mangers that have a native app for webOS. While that might sound like a small demographic to reach out to, I believe you can develop some significant user growth if you guys make the FIRST GTD app for Palm's webOS. If you reach out to developers and Palm users at http://www.Precentral.net , I'm sure you could pick up a huge following from Pre/Pixi users.

Thanks for you time and consideration, please let me know what makes it to your feature development list! (That way I won't keep nagging you :-)
If you seriously considering any of these features, I could to into depth about how I see the UX working for each feature.

There's already a webOS developer here who is just chomping at the bit for Nirvana to get their API up and running...

    Hi Charko...

Thanks for all your great suggestions. A lot of them are already on our radar (as you have stated).

    [ ] Ability to save/convert a Project as a Template...

We have had this comment come up a couple of times from other users and I too work on some projects that require the same steps each time, so I get it. One we incorporate the "quick dump" feature where you can simply copy and paste some pre-formatted text (à la TaskPaper syntax) I think that will act as a quick way of creating these templates. Antother will eventually be the "Copy Project" feature - you could create this template for yourself and then save the empty project in the Inactive projects to hide it from view. Just some quick thoughts off the top of my head. We really like the idea of taking advantage of existing features to be used in other ways as opposed to creating a whole new feature set... Keep it simple!

[ ] a calendar popup or give more flexible options in "Show in Today"...

good idea... will mark down for consideration.

[ ] Attachments not just for tasks, but for projects...

TBD... we are really trying to keep Nirvana simple. Many have asked for a References folder etc... not sure about document version as there are lots of great apps out there that do just this.

    [ ] a Hivemind-ish (Weekly) Review Inbox button...

Yes... we have received this suggestion. Has been added to our list.

    [ ] a Hivemind-ish Brain Dump...

Agreed... see my note above in my "Project Template" comment. This "quick dump" is on our radar.

[ ] Ability to hide unused features...

Simplicity is king for us and why we started Nirvana, so trust we want to keep the features at a manageable level!

    [ ] add COLORS to tags/projects...

Themes are a comin'. If you know CSS then added bonus for you. If not, then hopefully one of the design-oriented community members will help you out once we release the Themes design package.

Last, but not least: Please make a Palm webOS App!...

Go figure... this was way down our roadmap and it recently got bumped up. I saw the latest version this week and it rocks. It'll be rocking for all sorts of smartphones. Stay tuned for an announcement.

Sorry haeffb! Hopefully we haven't taken the wind out your sails... you'll have to give us your feedback once we release it.

    thanks guys.

    Thanks for the response Christine.
I'm happy to hear many of these ideas are already on the table with your team.

In my mind, themes and tag colors are completely different things, but it is a smaller want compared to the others.

I don't know if this is already available (I haven't received my beta invite yet) or in discussion, but a feature set that would be tremendously valuable to me (web and iPhone) would be integration with contacts.

I don't need or expect a sophisticated contact management system but I'd like to be able to (a) schedule appointments, follow-up calls, ticklers, etc., with notification and integration with gCal (b) record (searchable, tagged) notes of conversations, all through one cloud-based interface. Even better would be the ability to link to emails.

I am an extremely optimistic person but have to at least mention something here about WebOS.

Do you think it will survive the downfall of Palm?

As most of you know, Palm's stock is worth $0 at this point and they are up for sale. I would imagine the buyers if any would be interested in owning their Patents but would not want to compete with the Smartphone Giants and face the same death as Palm already has.

HTC looked at Palm and said they where not interested. Inside info. mentions that Palm is financially in chaos more than people understand.

    Just saying........

I do hope it survives because it's a nice Smart Phone OS. I am always about having competition to drive the market but we already have Apple, Android, Blackberry and Windows Phone 7 as the big players.

I hope it survives, and I figure I have to do my part if there is a chance. I don't like Blackberry or Windows (at least from my BlackJack a few years ago) and don't really want an iPhone. I just keep going back to Palm for their interface (Treos, and now Centro). They have a really good product (although I understand there have been a few hardware issues) but seem to have made several errors (advertising, timing of announcement vs product release, etc.).

Hopefully (yes, I'm an optimist as well) with the economy coming back more regular phone users will convert to smartphones and support the diversity.

Just want to offer my support for a few ideas, and a couple of (possibly) useful points :P

[ ] a calendar popup or give more flexible options in "Show in Today"

I think a tickler system would work well for this.

[ ] Text "Bar" on the top of the page to use a Quick Add feature. (How RTM does it.)

Some mockups of this could be good, however it is not a top priority but would certainly be nice.

[ ] Ability to hide unused features [ ] add COLORS to tags/projects [ ] Google Calendar integration. [ ] Subtasks (the inline list is great for now!)

These would certainly be a big plus for me.

TBD... we are really trying to keep Nirvana simple. Many have asked for a References folder etc... not sure about document version as there are lots of great apps out there that do just this.

Possibly could be solved with integration into Evernote, or Springpad or another note taking app. (probably Evernote, it is the most popular)

It'll be rocking for all sorts of smartphones. Stay tuned for an announcement.

    Awesome, great to hear!

For those needing a GTD app for Palm webOS, Outline Tracker is available: http://outlinetracker.com/

If the Nirvana API (when released) is a reasonable fit to Outline Tracker, we can certainly add support for it.

It's a done deal. Not sure what HP will do with it but only time will tell. This topic has been derailed and I apologize for that. :-)
