Multi-Select Dropdown Menu for Area of Responsibility / Focus
That area of focus feature is amazing, but sometimes we want to
see our tasks for some areas or all except one area.
Perhaps something like a rollover panel that displays the
checkboxes with buttons for All, None, Inverse and Select, Only,
Except next to each Area of Responsibility.
Something similar to Kayak.com Airlines filter after a search.

Hi richard... thanks for your suggestion. It is an interesting one. Out of curiosity, how many areas do you have set up in your account?
Anyone else like this idea?
thanks!

About 7 now
- Company Name - HEC MBA - Online Project #1 - Online Ventures - Personal - Social Life - Non-Profit Organization
Now that I think of it, maybe also an ability to archive areas of responsibilities?

Archive needs to be fleshed out more. Essentially tasks are only archived. We need to save the Project association as well as the associated Area information on each task to help you be able to search through any completed and archived tasks. Completely on our radar... thanks for suggesting it!

I love this idea. I sometimes have tasks that can be resolved from multiples areas. Actually I was going to suggest the same.
+1

Just this morning I was thinking of a workaround for this. I work in two different departments and have additional tasks that are relevant for the work I do in both departments. I'd love to be able to display "Dep1" & "Unassigned" tasks when I'm working on projects from the one department and "Dep2" & "Unassigned" when I'm working in the other department. And as I have written in a different thread, I (like Michel) have a number of tasks that are relevant for multiple areas and which I would like to be able to view from each of those areas instead of just one (e.g. "lose weight": "marriage" and "health"). Therefore +1 from me.

How I would like to see this implemented is by being able to highlight tasks by clicking on them. You could then highlight multiple tasks by control-clicking. Once multiple tasks are selected you could drag and drop them up and down your task list or to another project/today/next/etc... Additionally the little drop down arrow on the right is far to small and needs to be accessed frequently. Once all your tasks are selected you could use a hot key to bring up the popup window to move the tasks to another area right under your cursor. Perhaps use the "m" key for move?

Kevin... you will be seeing lots of the improvements you've cited in the next release as well as a larger "gear" or contextual menu which will help the small arrow issue.
check it out (if you haven't seen the blog post yet):

I was going to suggest this multi-select feature for the Areas of Responsibility, as well. This would also be very useful for Tags. I currently have 5 Areas, although I did have 9 and had to combine them artificially to make the Focus feature more usable. I would like to be able to Save combinations for future use--sometime I need to examine one Area, other times 2 or 3 or 4 or more areas together and would like to save the Combined Area views. Again, this discussion also applies to Tags.
Ideally, the ability should also be included to select all Areas except to NOT SELECT, say 1 or 2 specific Areas and save that combination as a Focus View. In other words, let's say I have 5 Areas defined in Focus (e.g. Home, Photography, Retirement, Investments, Work) and I'm at home where every Area is personal and applies to "home" EXCEPT Work. I would want to set up a view to, basically, see ALL Areas except Work. This saved parameter would allow me to add another Area later to the "home" group and that new Area would automatically be included in this "home" Focus View. I wouldn't even have to think about adding it to the "home" Focus View.
After all that, let me say that I'm new to Nirvana and so far am very pleased with what I see. I've tried many other systems and nobody else combines such a clean, clear interface (well tied to GTD) with the openness you guys are showing about future features AND actually listening and responding to your users. Keep it up!
