Unified Next List in Action (Kinda)
I wanted to demonstrate what a unified next list would look like in Nirvana.

+1 Yes, that is exactly what we need. Though, some people may prefer to view next actions as projects.

+1 Got my vote on that one...if I want to see the "next actions" divided by project, I can always go to the Projects list.

The idea here is that all Next Actions live in the correct list regardless if they are a Single Next Action or a Project Next Action.
I also only want the NA's of a Project to show up on the list and not ALL Project task. The Project list is already designed to show you all the task related to a Project and you could always click on the project link in the Next list to jump to the full Project.
I do agree with you that some people may want to see their actions as Projects and just like candeshouse suggested, it could be a simple toggle on the top of the list or in the preferences. Although I think this is a major disadvantage, I understand that some people just work differently.
When I do my Weekly Review or Daily Scans, I like to quickly scan through a Next list that allows me to sort my task by priority and this is determined by Context, Time and Energy. I only care to see Next Actions because it's the only task I can actually do.
In my opinion, you can't really do this when your Next list has a divider for Projects because now you must sort your Next List and each individual Project list.
AND
If the Next list was to show only all NA's as it should, the divided Project headers would only show NA's of the Project anyway and there not always more than one for you to sort by, so it would be less functional.
The Next list should only have NA's and they should all be listed in one master list that allows easy filtering a sorting regardless if it's a single task or project task. We can't do this today and it's frustrating to me.
Thanks for your input.

Agreed! Having the NAs listed as you outlined in the video above is a step in the right direction, but ultimately Next Actions are, by definition, only the NAs actions and not ALL of the actions. Call me a "GTD purist" if you want ; ), but that would make the NA list much more usable for me.

@candeshouse,
I agree with you and hope to see a Next list that works as GTD intended some day. Only NA's should be shown.
P.S. I guess I am a "GTD purist" as well. :-)

Yup. That's it.
Now, someone in another thread suggested that the "by project" view presently in the next list would work well in the Today list as a configurable option. After thinking about that, I would agree. The Today list is shorter so it would make sense to think of "projects" you are going to work on "today" and target those in the Today list.
Really, it makes sense to have configurable options for both the Today and Next lists.

I am all for having configurable options. :-)
As an example, I would LOVE to get rid of the "Later" list. lol

Yes! To my mind, it's not GTD if it can't do this.

Brilliant idea. This is exactly what I'm looking for as well.

Well, I've said it before, but I'll jump in again with a +1 in case anyone is counting heads.
