Write down task for inbox without switching to it
Nirvana is great, no doubt about it, but for some reason I kept getting annoyed when using it. Today I have finally put my finger on it:
we need quick task feature!
Just press a shortkey, write down a task (even without due date, notes or tag - that is to be decided in process stage which SHOULD take place in inbox) and your new task is thrown into inbox
simple window that pops up for you to capture what is on your mind:
here is the source of my annoyance: during weekly review I would go through my projects and all of sudden an idea gets into my head so I had to click inbox, make a task and then go back to my projects....but now I am lost and have to start all over again (not that I must, but it is what I usually do.
Please please implement this
edit:
oopssss I did not want this topic to be private, please fix

Agree - this would be helpful.
It is also confusing that (n) is the shortcut key for new tasks when the focus is on the Inbox, Today, Next, Waiting For, Someday, and any Active Projects - and it is also the shortcut key for new projects when the focus is on the Projects page.
How about making (p) the shortcut for new projects and (n) shortcut for new tasks no matter where you are in the app. All new tasks by default go into the Inbox and all new projects by default go into the active projects area.

+1
(i) for a new entry in the Inbox.
These are not necessarily tasks but in true GTD terms "stuff". So anything that comes up in my head, mail, phone, discussions, etc I should be able to dump in my Inbox.

i=new inbox task. n= new task (in current context), p=new project
+1 !!

I just wanted to bump this thread.
However I feel it is not so much a keyboard shortcut suggestion as Christiane writes but an annoying habbit of either Nirvana or myself.
When I add tasks to Nirvana in 95 % of cases I just want to add a task to my inbox (get it out of my head) so I can process i later. Especially on the mobile version to achieve this in Nirvana is a loooong process:
I have to wait for Nirvana to load in safari (iPhone). It always starts with my today list.
I then have switch to inbox -wait for it to load- and add my task.
It is also possible to add a task directly from today but that takes even more steps - move item to inbox + remove today.
The PC version is faster, but just as irritating.
Suggestions:
1. When adding a task, add it to the inbox by default OR
2. Create a setting so I can load my inbox by default in the mobile version (I use the mobile version mostly for adding tasks)

if you want to follow strict GTD all tasks must go to inbox upon creation because when you load it you don't, or at least you are not supposed, know where it should go.
So, I think it's a good idea that whenever you add any new task the only possibility for it is to go to the Inbox.
Just my 2 cents.

For me:
within a Project, if i hit New Task button it should be created in that project
shortcut key (i), should go to inbox no matter what
For mobile, I almost always use Email to Nirvana to add a new task and it rightly goes to inbox. I did have to turn off my Signature because all of my tasks had a description of" Sent From my iPhone" - LOL!

Sure, everyone has it's own needs, that's why I said "if you want to follow strict GTD".
I, for instance, I'm a purist and hate the current way that the New Task button works. I want that all my new tasks to always go to my inbox.

@Michel Peterson: I think that first and foremost strict GTD is about getting things done and about doing so as easily and efficiently as possible. I agree that the inbox is an important tool to achieve this goal. But if someone handed me a piece of paper and I immediately recognized that all I had to do with it was file it, and I had the file lying open on my desk, I don't think it would be in keeping with the spirit of GTD to first put it in my inbox only to pick it up moments later (or later that day) to file it. In the same sense, if my boss asks me to do something today and I'm on the Today list, well, it makes most sense to add the task right there. And I don't think that following strict GTD would require me to put it in my inbox first (at least I can't imagine that's what DA wanted to say). Even though I put most of my tasks in the inbox, I wouldn't want to lose the function to create a task in a list. That's why I'm for Ollie's suggestion.
