Archive preference for recurring tasks

When recurring tasks are implemented, many users will have daily, weekly or monthly recurring tasks.

When archives are a little more fully fleshed out, it would be nice to be able to set a flag on recurring tasks so that they don't appear in the archives. I don't need to remember that I got the mail every day, but do need to remember when I completed that important project.

I suppose this could be accomplished by filtering tags in the archives as well (if that ability is available), but a simple "Archive" check box on recurring tasks might be nice.

Thoughts?

Great idea. Speaking of recurring... I'd love to discuss the API with you (and others who are interested) re: recurring parameters and how to keep them simple.

I think that the original Poster has suggested a very good start to a "Getting Things Done" approach to recurring tasks.

If you beef up the archive to show tags, projects, areas of focus (just as you do with normal tasks, with schedule/due date replaced with 'Archive"), I could use the archive to manage bringing tasks back into the active area to then manage them with a new schedule. All I would need is a flag/nag to tell me I needed to update my current GTD.

I see that you have recurring tasks as an item on your 'Under Development' list. I am a fan of the RTM automatic recurring task feature for simple, every day tasks, but find it does not address my needs getting things done for more substantial ongoing projects.

I really think the GTD approach for such projects should use the archive (beefed up to show all task data), flags and notices that you may want to reactivate an archived task, and polite/deferrable nags if you take not action.

I want to be able to drag a task from the archive to "today, tomorrow, next, later, or someday" with the appropriate status/date fields filled in.

    Regards

      Garth
