Hiding Areas of Focus
I personally don't use all areas of focus, and I'd take a guess and assume that a lot of users don't use all of them either. I think it would be nicer on the eyes (and it would save vertical screen space) if there was a simple preference pane to enable or disable the display of certain areas of focus. Though I guess it might be less messy to allow the disable of the today/next/waiting/scheduled/later/someday/projects features instead. It would be harder to program, but if someone for example didn't like the waiting feature, it would be weird to have tasks that would just disappear. But anyways, I would be happy with simply hiding the links on the left. Maybe there could be some sort of menu to show the ones you hid (like for hidden labels in Gmail).

I am confused.
Areas of Focus are created by the user. You can have as many or as little as you wish. They don't take up any vertical space because it's a fly out menu.
Are you are talking about the GTD List such as Today, Next, Waiting, Scheduled, Someday and Projects?
If so, I don't agree that it should be an option to hide any of them. Nirvana is a GTD application and the UI should reflect that. Other GTD applications such as Things and Omnifocus provide the core list required for GTD as well.
Other services like Toodledo allow you to customize the UI based on how you want to use it because they don't follow a particular productivity system.
Maybe I simply don't understand what you are asking and I apologize. Could you please clarify?

Oh, sorry, I said that wrong. I meant the GTD lists. I definitely love the GTD system of Nirvana, I definitely wouldn't want to hide all of them, only some I don't use.

Well, I will have to be honest here and tell you that there is ONE list that I want the option to hide and it's the infamous "Later List".
I won't go any further than that. It's a touchy topic around here. :-)

I understand. That's why I was thinking of preferences for it. Different people use different things. I don't use some day, waiting, projects, or scheduled (at least for now).
