Nirvana 2: Creating new task is confusing

I like the idea of entering context, contact and AoF in the same box but it's confusing and can cause issues.

You must enter them in the order described. If I try to enter an AoF first and then a context, it does not work. I must enter the context first and then the AoF.

I would rather tab over to an input area for context, contact and AoF.

Also, some people may have a context that is the same name as an AoF. So what happens when you enter it alone? Is it a context or an AoF? Based on what I saw, it would be a context, but if you wanted it to be an AoF it won't work right.

Just some thoughts.

You don't need to rework things when you switch.

There may be some AoR that are converted to context by mistake and this is where the confusion is. Everything is a tag and some have experienced their AoR changing to a tag/context.

It's easy to correct but the real confusion is when you are creating a new task. If I have an AoR that is the same name as a context, what does Nirvana use when I type the word?

Because of the new design direction, I did change the naming of my context and AoR to prevent the confusion I was having.

I don't think anyone is saying that it does not work, but we are wondering if it could be setup differently and have dedicated context, contacts and tags that can be managed easier.

Right now when you enter the context management area, you will find all your context and the things you consider tags in one list. Well, the tags are not context, so why the single list. Again, the confusion is that everything is actually a tag.

As far as changing over to N2, I don't think it would be difficult at all and you may not experience any of the errors that convert an AoR to a context.

I do suggest you consider your naming before you switch over. Make sure no AoR has the same name as a current tag/context because this is where I had a problem.

Thanksfully, I am using the @ symbol before context so that should solve that problem. Your description of the content management system leads me to the same conclusion as you have arrived at: all tags in one list doesn't sound like something I am going to like. I'd like to look at some screenshots of the new GUI but cannot migrate until the email to nirvana function is implemented. I noticed that others are having difficulty with launching N2 to explore and then re-migrating at a later date. But, hey, thanks P, for the words. SF

I created a short Nirvana 2 Preview video to give you an idea on how things are looking.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Proximo --

I cannot believe you stopped your busy day and created that video. WoW. As a business owner, if one of my clients did that for other clients, I would stop, put on a face of WOW, and hand you a commission check -- or offer you a support position. LOL. The video answered my questions completely. I appreciated the detail. While I was working hard to not look at your list, I admit one task stayed in my memory: learn html/css. I teach courses periodically at the two local research universities. I taught a class that required my students learn html. You might want to check out Dave's site at http://www.davesite.com/webstation/html/ I used that site as a resource for the course. Once you have mastered xhtml and css, I encourage you to toy with Drupal -- at drupal.org Fun stuff. More tasks. Thanks!!!

    No problem.

I sometimes think about my task showing, but there is usually not enough details in the titles to cause any harm. :-)

In Nirvana 1.0 I had a special Area of Responsibility called Nirvana that I used when making my videos. I created some fake task and projects for demonstration purposes. I have been meaning of doing this for Nirvana 2.0 but just never go around to it. Do you know why? I never put it on my Next list. LOL

Thanks again and I appreciate the tips on learning html/css. I learned it many years ago but I found that so many things have changed, that I wanted to start all over again.

    Have a great day.

Maybe you could have the Nirvana folks post your video at the N2 page so others can benefit from the preview?

A lot of people in the community know that I have a Youtube channel with Nirvana videos and general GTD stuff.

I don't officially advertise it, but most follow the link from my videos and figure it out.

    :-)

I need to start creating more videos soon.
