Native Desktop Task Entry?

While I believe that Nirvana 2 is superior GTD app (at least for my workflow), I really love that Flow has a quick entry desktop app (with a global shortcut), which runs in the menubar on Macs (see attached photo). I would love to see Nirvana implement something like this so that we can enter tasks whilst working on other projects without having to stop and change to the web browser (or web app through Fluid).

Anybody else out there agree?

    It would be nice.

A Windows version and Mac would be best. I was trying to customize Executor for Windows to make it support quick task entry for Nirvana but I have no clue how to make it work.

I know that someone did create a small desktop app to quickly enter tasks to Nirvana, but that only worked for Nirvana. Was a great app tough, used it a lot. Hoping that the author will create a new version that will work on Nirvana 2 as well. Here's the link to the forum entry http://help.nirvanahq.com/discussions/general-chit-chat/48-nirvanah...

@mike.witenton I'm doing that with launch bar and a little scripting. Can send it to you if you'd like!

@joe I'm a LaunchBar guy myself, so would love to see what you've got for it. Thanks!

Missing to our discussion is input from the N2 staff. Workarounds are only meant to be temporary fixes. Would the N2 care to offer anything by way of plans for a native desktop client?

This is pretty geeky, but it's worked well for me so far! I would much rather have a native quick entry app, but it works for now.

I'm using Unix's postfix to send mail through the command line (via my Google apps account). I wrote a script (I call it 'tm') that takes whatever content I give it and sends it as an email to my Nirvana inbox. Then in my LaunchBar index, under "Unix Executables" I added the script. Now when I bring up LaunchBar and type 'tm' followed by it prompts me for text. I enter the content of my task, press Return (hold down option to keep the terminal from popping up) and the task will be in your inbox.

This has been discussed (quick entry mini-app), but it's in the Someday list at this point.

I think it's pretty safe to say it would be subsequent to getting native mobile apps developed or we would be lynched -- but you never know.

Personally, I'd like to do a Windows version myself (I'm a .NET developer) -- but the business reality is that there are other items that have priority at the moment, as much as I'd prefer otherwise.
