Color of [due today] label
Extremely minor UI issue, but I feel that the color of the [due today] label should not be red. The [{n} days late] label is also red, and the natural association is that red == bad (it screams "this is overdue!"). [due today], at least in the way I use it, means "currently working on today" - a color more reflective of that state (and its difference from [{n} days late]) would be preferential from a UX perspective.

I agree! Although it's seems like a small thing, color is an instant way to communicate information. The red also says "overdue" to me, and it makes a full list feel a bit overwhelming.

I completely agree. Green for due, red for past due.

Agree-Green for due, red for past due

I concur! :-)
Red (in this context, that is) indded "screams", and is associated with alarm and stress. Not something that I like having in my organizer... unless the task is really overdue (if that).
Green should be OK I guess... or some shade of yellow, why not.

This topic has not been brought up in a while, so I thought I'd do a refresh. I would assume it would be pretty easy to provide us with a green alert for items due today and leave the red for items which are past due. Is this something we might see implemented in the near term?

I have just been increasing my use of Due Dates, specifically in my morning review to set things Due today for things that I am committed to finishing today even if they dont necessarily have a real due date. So now most of my focus list has red boxes. Would appreciate green or even a dark grey for due today.

I inadvertently started a new thread about this subject. Sorry.

The main thing for me is the fact that there should be a visible difference between the two. Being due is totally normal and expected, whereas being ovedue is nothing we aim for.
But as far as colors, I tend to prefer quiet ones. The subtler, the better, especially for Due today. Like rfo says above, a dark gray could be one very good option. Or normal gray, with just a colored borderline (yellow border - for mild warning? It goes well with the Focus star as well. Or red border - to avoid too many different colors in the checkboxes?). And the same border could then surround the gray due today bubble on the right, as well.

There is a task manager I used for several years called Tudumo that had a feature called "heatmap". When the due date was close it became pale pink, then darker and darker until it became flaming red. I would let it be an optional that can be switched off from the admin panel, but maybe it could be of use to some.
