Export & Link

There are a few ways to connect Nirvana with the outside world. This section will teach you how to print or export your data, how to email items, and how to call, email, or access links from your notes.

Export your item history

  1. Go to your account dashboard.
  2. Scroll down to the Nirvana 2 Data Export section.
  3. Here, you can choose to export your data as .csv (the most popular format and readable by Excel), .xml, or .json.
  4. Check your downloads folder for a file beginning with Nirvana_V2_Export.
Nirvana 2 Data Export

Good to know: This lets you access more of your history than available in the logbook. It will give you all of the data from your account except for what you’ve emptied from your trash.

Email items from the web app

Using the web app, you can easily email actions, projects, reference lists, or reference items. To do this, right-click the item you want to send and choose Email this… from the drop-down menu.

Depending on what you’re sending, you’ll create a blank email with either:

  • The action or reference item name as the subject and its notes as the email body
  • The project name as the subject with the action titles organized by state in the email body
  • The reference list name as the subject with the item titles and notes

Good to know: When an action is waiting on a contact, using this feature will populate the email with their address. Find out more about adding contacts to tasks here.

Print from Nirvana

Print from the browser

Using the web app, you can print using the browser print function, typically CTRL + P or CMD + P .

This will print your current view within Nirvana, so adjust the filters and display options prior to printing.

Print exported data

This option allows you to print your entire record or selected data.

  1. Export your data to a .csv file.
  2. Open the file in a spreadsheet application.
  3. Filter and sort the data to your liking and print.

Print a specific action, project, or reference list

You can easily get and manipulate item text by using email.

  1. Use email this… to create an email with the desired information.
  2. Adjust the font size, style, and colour of the email text to your specifications and print.

Add links to your notes

You can link to documents, launch webpages or applications, send emails, and call phone numbers from Nirvana. To do this:

  1. Add the link or number to your notes .
  2. Make sure your notes are expanded.
  3. Click the link to launch your action.

You can see the process in the video below. Though it shows the mobile app, this feature is also available in the web app.

Here are a few tips to help you make the most of different types of links:

Link to web content

Nirvana assumes you’re using http or https as a protocol in your links. If you need to access another protocol, such as FTP, make sure it’s written at the beginning of the link.

Link to files stored online

These work just like web links. If you use a cloud-drive type service (e.g. Google Drive, OneDrive, etc), create a link to the file or folder and add it to the notes section of your item. Click the link and the file or folder will open.

Open other applications

You can launch other apps by using custom URL schemes. Each app requires a slightly different type of link, so check what format it uses. Next, create the link in the other application and add it to your item notes. Make sure the app is installed on your device, then click the link to access it.

Make phone calls

Click directly on the number to make your call via mobile phone or any click-to-call extension installed on your web browser. Phone numbers are clickable with the following formats: 1-123-123-1234, 1 123 123 1234, (123) 456-7890, 123 456 7890, or 123-456-7890. You can also use dots in place of dashes.

Launch emails

To launch a blank email, add the address to the notes. Click the link to launch your email client.
